***Official BimmerPost Photo Contest #16: Reflection***
________________________________________ RULES: -Any interpretation of the theme that falls within Bimmerpost.com rules is welcome. -You must be the person that took the photo. Previous photos are acceptable as long as you are the one that captured the image. -One submission per contest. -Images must be no larger than 800px in any direction. Links to larger images are allowed but you must have one that is under 800px for the poll. -All contestants must host their own pictures (which includes hosting them on bimmperpost). -All images must have a title. -While post processing in Photoshop is allowed, adding or removing parts of the picture is not. In the event a photo is suspected to be "photo-chopped," the contestant will be asked to provide the original picture. THEME: Reflection – Your entry in this contest should have a reflection as a major element of the image. It can be a scenic mountain reflected in a lake, a self-portrait in a mirror or in the side of your car, wildlife drinking at a waterhole and reflected in the water, etc. IMPORTANT DATES: Entries must be submitted to this thread no later than Friday, November 6th at MIDNIGHT PST. The poll will start soon after that. Good luck ladies and gentlemen. Dave

"Avocets Reflect"
The details are interesting in the Original size, but here's a larger size that'll download pretty fast: Flickr Version

Do we normally go a whole month? If so, let me know and I'll change it. I thought a couple of weeks was enough, but I don't want to flaunt tradition. That certainly gives me more time to prepare for the voting thread. BTW, I like our start. Dave

We should amend the rules so photos have to be taken after the contest date. It's no fun when you see the same images over and over. And it's LAZY. The fun of photo contests are about taking photos for the contest, not finding an old photo in your library that fits the description.

I have no trouble with someone reusing an image, so long as it's never been a winner in our contests.
I don't find anything "lazy" about trying to make good images. I stand for hours at the edge of a swamp, with mesquitoes nawing on my ears and sinking into the mud while trying to get a bird in flight in perfect focus, with perfect light and, if I'm real lucky, with a nice reflection or something like the moon setting in the background. I think the poll kind of takes care of things. We all know a half-assed image when we see it, particularly for the 2d or 3d time. Hopefully we'll have plenty of images to chose from. I think we're off to a good start. This isn't an "assignment" style contest, IMHO, where a particular style of photo is suggested and you go out and do it. That is a good and valid learning experience, but I'm thinking of this as a place to show interesting images that fit a theme. Of course, the "winner" of this contest may decide to give us an "assignment" and limit the contest to new images. Of course, it's easy to edit EXIF data, but the honor system could work. Dave

Usually it's 2-3 weeks for submissions. That's more than enough time IMO.

Yes, you have used that one in the past TWiTCHY. Contest #8: Serenity.
#8 Photo Contest - Serenity 2 votes shy of winning. I don't see how it would be disqualified, but maybe shoot something new. :
