Would you be interested in this??
Us car fanatics are missing our own brand. Nike has sports, Mccdonalds is cheap fast food, true religions are upper class jeans, etc, etc. I've noticed us as car fanatics are definitely missing out on our huge huge niche. Im pushing very hard to developing an automotive car t-shirt brand based around 18-30 year olds who love cars, like us. The company would sell t-shirts while building a huge network of like minded enthusiasts, hopefully one day becoming something similar to the Harley Owners Group that Harley Davidson Motorcycle Enthusiasts share. The T-shirts would appeal to owners of "higher class' auto brands like BMW, Merc, Audi, etc. I would pull designers from different fields to create the shirts and other merchandise. I will explain more, I'm basically trying to learn how other fanatics think of the idea. This is something that I've wanted to start for some time now and I'm looking for some VERY HONEST OPINIONS please! Thanks guys any help at all is hugely appreciated. |

Honestly I think its a shitty idea, heres why
BMW, MERC, And AUDI owners mostly hate and look down on each other, why would they wear a brand that uniformly represent everybody. Whether you admit it or not, people buy "expensive" shirts like Affliction to appeal to the opposite sex. Believe it or not, car stuff generally don't appeal to the opposite sex. Brands that represent car enthusiasts as whole is out there if you must dig, F1, grand prix and maybe even racing teams. But thats more like reping the event and not the rides so people don't object to it. The reason Harley shit sells is because Harley is a SINGLE brand and they spent decades marketing their "I don't give a shit" appeal and its paying dividends now. I know this is not what you are thinking, but when I read your thread, all I can think off is those old exaggerated cartoonish drawings of ricer shirts...like this lol I hope you understand what I am saying, not trying to put you down or anything but i just don't see it catching on for major profit or as a recognizable brand. |

Rather than trying to market to the entire market of euro drivers, you should try to market specifically niche portions such as to BMW drivers, to Audi drivers, etc. Don't try to unite each other because there's I'm sure there's some rivalry within those car brands. There really isn't a market for euro shirts so you could have something there, but I would get a completely new marketing plan and business strategy in terms of who you want you target audience to be. For example, make a BMW shirt that bags on Audi drivers or vice versa or something.

you would have to be really creative in making up a shirt that people would actually wear.....i would definitely not wear a t-shirt that said anything about BMW on it (too snobbish). it almost has to be like those afflicition t-shirts, where the actual shirt represents something larger (like UFC), but doesn't explicitly mention it....

wow thanks guys thats EXACTLY the type of opinions i was looking for!
SAMWOO2GO: Thank you for posting up that horrible t-shirt example thats exactly what im NOT going for and im happy you understood that. I just feel like people leap onto the UFC bandwagon and slave over brands like Harley Davidson, dont you agree that us car enthusiasts are missing something? Grand Prix and race teams are great but we need a Nike of the auto world. sokdo: For some reason, possibly humor or sarcasm, people love to bag on other things. Your idea about bagging on Audi's or whatever would probably be successful but I wonder how long I would be proud presenting something like that. I thought of an idea recently for a general car enthusiast brand called "Driveslow" . The brand would push the idea that I love, cruising with buddies down the popular spot in your town. Not about racing or flexing that BOV (although I do love it) but about that common feeling we all have when we just relax and enjoy the drive. What do you think? Would you honestly be a part of that? |

This isn't a new idea. Creating T-shirts? Uh... ever been to a festival or gathering of some sort? Good luck though. Will be difficult for you to drum up enough business to make it profitable, but as with all small-businesses, that's the fun of trying to make $$.

A good friend of mine that I went to college with has been doing this since 2001. I believe his lil sis is still running most of the business while he focuses on the graphic work. Here's his stuff.
