Finals/Midterm

So the semester or for some quarter is almost near an end, and although i've had one of the chillest semesters, im having one of the most REDICULOUS finals week.

my main concern is a 12 page paper i have to write, due on the 1st about kidney diseases among the african american community, and i have to right it in this special attorney way as if i am trying to get a bill passed by congress.
-_- FML.

on top of this i have the usual book to to read last minute n write an essay and your famous multiple choice tests.

What are your guys' finals mid/terms and how the heck do you study cuz i cant concentrate right now !

sounds like typical college stuff to me...

i bust out 8+ page papers out likes its nobodies business....i have an entire book to read before next week, and a 8+ page paper to do all before december - i'm not too worried. i've had a RIDICULOUSLY hard semester this year though.

you get used to it once your a senior.

im in the supposedly hardest quarter of my 5yr architecture program. in two weeks, we all have to finish a 1"=1'-0" scale model of a 600sq ft house... thats about a foot and a half by 3 feet. we have to pour real concrete for foundations, do structural framing for walls, floor, roof, add the finishes, finish a set of drawings, maybe do a rendering, and take a structures test for finals. my instructor works for CA's seismic commission so he's strict with calculations... im just taking a break. can't wait till the quarter is over... assassin's creed 2... can't... wait...

Give you $50 if you define "Kidney Disease" the obsessive love for driving a BMW in your paper.

Ended up having this semester off, but I've got one more to go in the spring. One course on computer modeling and a thesis to write. Can't wait to finish. I'm sick to death of school.

The last year of my B.S. I had run out of money and the school I was at only charged tuition for the first 12 credit hours and fees for the first 15. Everything after that was free. I knocked out 7 courses in the fall (21 hours) and 8 in the spring (24 hours). That was on top of 11 over the summer. That's why it took me more than a decade to go back for my master's. I was seriously burned out.

And after all the work to get my B.S. in geology, I only spent two years in the field and then got into computers. Been doing that for the last 11 years.

I hate writing papers the most. Once I get rolling I'm fine, but it kills me to get started. And no matter what excuse the school uses, group work sucks. You always end up carrying the slackers.

Today was quite strenuous for me. It is my last day before Thanksgiving Break..I had an Ochem exam, Calc 3 exam, an evaluation essay that was about 10 pages long (which I turned in at 10PM, that was the deadline) and I had an Spanish (honors course) composition today.

Glad I'm free for the week.

I'm pretty lucky this semester. I'm taking 4 classes and out of the 4 classes, I have two exams. One exams is over the last three chapters in my Econ book and the other is a comprehensive math final. Not too bad really.

I'll share my secret with you here (although it should be common sense). Most people tend to freak out when it comes to exam time because there are a lot of things going on in their minds: have to study for calculus, bio, chem, etc. Just relax and take one thing at a time. Perhaps you can do the easy things first so you can cross them off your list and then focus on the harder things (which will take more time). Or you can go over the hard things first and then when you're done with the other stuff go over them again.

When I was in college I usually read all the things I have to read, take some time off, and then read it again a day or two before the exam(s). Then the night before or before class I would scan over it to make sure I didn't miss anything. The key here is to read slow (I do) and stop and think/find answers to things that you don't understand. Many people would just read for the sake of reading and end up wondering why they get bad grades on exam. The answer: it's because they can't retain anything at all.

PS- it does suck at times when you have to study like crazy but it's all part of a fun experience. Trust me when I say you're going to wish you were back in college after you've graduated.

im also glad to be in a design major. it's just really the repetitive work of calculations that's killing me the most. homeworks just take so much time. we now have tables to look info up and engineers as consultants but we are required to know how to solve for the numbers.

yeah it is fun designing. but it sure comes with a lot of work and thinking. we usually do all-nighters just to keep up with deadlines. very rewarding though specially after a good crit.

sample of my work:

night shot's perspective is off and the renderings' field of view is widened to fit the scene.

Never once wished I was back in college. Then again, I went to school in my mid-30s, so it wasn't a party experience for me.
