Help me pick a SUV
Hello,
I am planning on trading in my old lexus rx for another SUV for the winter. Before, I was interested in purchasing new, but now i want either certified or a good pre owned. My budget is roughly 25000. Here are some limitations: 1.Must have AWD 2.Must be good in snow 3. X3 size preferred but can tolerate up to and including mercedes ML size. 4.Decent room inside. 5. OK(not range rover or hummer ) fuel economy. Currently, i was thinking, X3 or LR2ish... Any and all suggestions are appreciated! *Edit* not interested in another Lexus Rx. Thanks! |

First gen SRX. Try to grab a 2007 or newer as those have a much improved interior, but it drives great. Won C&D best luxury SUV 3 years in a row. It even beat the new X5 in 2007 when it came in 2nd to the MDX( ugh!).

I'd love an Audi Q5, except the price is way over my budget. Any used/certified ones are well over 25000 and new ones are out of the picture. =(
I also like the FX35 but there are NO infiniti dealers within a 50 mile radius so they are harder to find. Good suggestions, keep em coming! |

I think for around $25k you should look at maybe an 07 RX350, highlander, Rav4, honda pilot, GMC terrain. Be wary in buying a toyota though. There's a recent recall on some of the models (mostly 09-10 but some models go back to 05- avalon).

Acura mdx, it is about the same size as an ML but is less expensive and has good handling and acceleration.
http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com...-Midsize-SUVs/ the rdx is really fun too, 2007 had the most sporty suspension, Last edited by Bimmer007; 01-28-2010 at 08:37 PM.. |

For the smaller options, I like the LR2, RDX, or CX-7. For something bigger, maybe the X5, ML, SRX, or Pilot.

hmm lots of interesting suggestions!
Keep them coming! I am currently leaning towards smaller vehicles like the LR2, RDX, and X3. However I do like the ML. But sadly, the tahoe, GX, and MDX are too big for me. Touareg, i am surprised you did not suggest a touareg lol, my sister in law has one, its great!!! but too big and too thirsty for me |

lol...i did think about it, it is definitely an option :-) i don't think it should be horrendously thirsty with the V6, it's no bigger than an ML, and it is really nice inside

Except it costs like $46k for a base model; $50k with the tech stuff. That's 2x the OP's budget. But to be honest I would love to have that car. I saw it at a local dealer and really liked it as well.

What do you want out of the vehicle? You say you want a small SUV, but i don't know what you want to do with it. IMO, a small SUV is often not much more useful than a sedan (unless you're looking for cargo room for a dog, etc). Do you like the driving position, but wanted something small enough to still be someone interesting to drive?
