Finally bought a car! not a bmw though

So last night i went to go test drive this 07 335i coupe iv been interested in for the last week and a bit, iv test driven it already just wanted to go for another ride before i put my money down tonight on it, i go to start it and guess what, 1 crank,2 crank and finally starts so im thinking ok forget this and the hpfp failure pops into my head. Bmw im really disapointed in you, i absolutly love everything about the 335i,exterior,interior, performance and ease of modifications but i cant wrap my head around spending 33k for a car with problems like this, i thought i could but just seeing it happen first hand to me on a car i dont even own yet just makes me think of the headaches to come and has detered me from my purchase,on a lighter note i took a stroll over to the local mercedes dealership and low and behold they had a gorgeous 06 e55 amg on the lot. i took it out for a test drive and this car is a whole different level of fast,if you think the 335i is fast try a amg e55,what a rocket! the interior was amazing nice and had so many cool little functions i was so impressed even with it being a 06, massaging seats, heated and ventilated seats,4 way climate control, dynamic seats that measures g forces and snugs up the boltsers to hold you in, and the airmatic suspension is pretty sweet too with the different settings and able to raise the car up with push of a button, needless to say i purchased this car and i think ill be more then happy, im still a bmw fan though but if anybody can get the chance to drive a e55 amg trust me do it!,this cars a whole different animal and 600rwhp isnt to hard

Ya, sometimes it's too bad we have that whole "freedom of speech" thing in this country. There was no real point to any of that one long sentence!

I am glad for you and your purchase and they are a good deal right now.

With that said, I hope the dealer did not tell you it has 600Whp. Unless it is a Kleeman or RennTech car.

469 at the crank is probably what you have. Still plenty though.

lol there wasn't one period. but I recently drove an E63 which i highly considered buying but I couldn't see paying 50k for a 3 year old car with 40k miles plus all the extra upkeep costs. So I bought a 335i sedan same year 10k miles less and 20k cheaper. Plus maint is paid for. Im pretty sure the 335i can be modded to keep up with the E55 with a simple tune, and the HPFP is nothing compared to the problems you'll have with that AMG. E55 is a beast of a car tho!

I also considered a e55 before my 335i. Went and test drove a couple. They were definately fast on the highway where it can stretch it's legs. However the crappy steering feel just turned me off. I just didn't feel confident pushing the car because of the over assisted steering which gave no feedback of the road at all. Seats also did not have any lateral support when you pushed the car. I went to MBworld and read up on these cars and there are lot's of known issues with the e55. There is a good reason why they are so cheap for a car which had a MSRP of $85k. No one will touch them even with a 10 foot pole when they are out of warranty. Make sure you budget for repair cost.

wow i just re read my original post and sorry guys, i was on the phone at the time of typing it all out. I'll have pictures of the car as soon as its in my possession. the car isnt making 600rwhp, i was just stating with some mods its what the e55 is capable of. Ill admit the 335i definatly handles better and you can feel the weight difference but to me for a daily driver all the extra luxuries more then make up for that, plus i wont be flying around corners anytime soon other then hwy on and off ramps and if i feel like doing some really spirited driving thats what i bought my zo6 for.

1. the first major one is the SBC braking system. Go to some MB forums and search for SBC failure. When this happens it means no brakes. On most cars when you have a brake failure you would still have braking to all 4 wheels but on MB SBC you only have braking to the 2 front wheels. Many have said they really felt no braking happen when the SBC braking system went out on them.
2. Heat soak and supercharger shutdown. I think for daily driving this is less of an issue but for more agressive driving it could be a problem.
3. Doesn't handle like the much smaller 335i or the S4.
4. Those messaging seats become a niusance sooner or later because the motor for the bolsters become pretty noisy.
5. Many other problems with MB cars as I did have 3 of them and all 3 were lemons hence no more MB for me thank you.

I am just letting you know of some common problems as I did not have a good experience with MB with my 3 cars. I had a 2001 S430, 2003 E500 and a 2001 C320. My friend had the E55 and he had the heatsoak problem. From the years 2003-2007 MB had the lowest reliability rating by a fair margin over Audi and BMW.
+1 AMG's are a PITA to own. PITA!!!!!

I am a mercedes fan, turned to a loyal BMW owners now. I like the driving dynamics of BMW better than Mercedes personally, but I do think Mercedes as a company is a much better car manufacturer than BMW, but that is another story.

But I must say, from what I know, your 3 Mercedes cars were really the model years that had lots of problems. 2001 C320 was the first year model car with lots of problems (I got an 02 C240 and absolutely problem free for 90k+ miles.) The pre-facelift S class and E class both had lots of problems, but they were mostly fixed after the face lift was applied to them.

I feel for you, and I wouldn't get another mercedes if I were you, but you just happened to hit 3 bad model/year scenarios one after another.

pics to come soon as i get the car in my possesion late next week guys, i already ordered a renntech lowering module for the car. My plans are lowered on the stock wheels with a cf front lip and 5% tinted windows all around with a slight tint on the front window, i wanna keep it clean and simple. As far as the sbc problem goes its not so much in the later 06 models but more so in the 03,04, also the heat soak issues im not so worried about as the cars going to be getting a upgraded heat exchanger and pump along with many other goodies to make about 600rwhp daily.

I only find this amusing because you stepped away from x35is due to the HPFP. You obviously haven't looked into any of the ridiculous amount of Mercedes issues.

Anywho, enjoy the crap out of it.
