Good starter tool kit?
Im looking for a good tool kit to start doing my own work on my car, the best way to understand these cars is fix them yourself...i can do routine oil changes, replace filters etc... but i want to start doing all other work since i have an e46 and dont want to take it to my mechanic for little things(sensors, belts, brakes etc..)

I usually stay away from home depot/auto store brands.
Not really a big fan of Craftsman, but you can not beat the life time warranty. Drop by your local Sears with a broken tool and they will replace it no questions asked nor would they ask for a receipt. As long as it says "Craftsman" they will replace it. I just replaced a 12 year old screw driver last week. I am a HUGE Snap-On fan, however, those tools will bankrupt you.

Probably. Most what I have seen on my car is pretty much standard Torx, but this will depend on the depth of maintenance you want to do yourself.
I had to get a $75 spark plug *wire* remover too for my Jetta.

There is a basic 100+ piece tool kit by craftsman. It usually goes on sale as its one of the cheaper kits to begin with. I'd say pick one up and start there. Also pick up some torx bits and you should be good to go for a while. As time goes on you pick up various random tools you need and keep the collection growing.

I picked up this...
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...sName=View+All got pretty much everything you need, needed a couple other tools and special tools to do a few jobs on my friends Jeep. But this is a nice starter set so far
