The Cove - Documentary

Have you guys seen this?
It is a very touching documentary on the massive killing of thousands(23,000 to be exact) of dolphins every year in Japan.

It was just released and i could not believe what i saw. I was truly disturbed by the events going on in Japan.

Watch it and tell me what you think.

More surprising to me then the cruelty is that they sell all the meat to people as whale meat when it's so high in mercury and even try and feed it to their kids at school...

i feel bad for these dolphins, but is it just me or do people only care about the cute animals? i'm no vegan but no one gives a shit how cows/pigs/chickens are handled

but I also really hate how that group of eco-pirates or w/e destroyed that gorgeous boat for no reason ...

I'm sure there is something to this, but anymore I don't give a lot of credit to "documentaries" since Michael Moore turned them into "mockumentaries." It is so easy to manipulate images, content and "tone" these days that I don't think a true "documentary" can exist anymore. To look through the lens is to put spin, angle, color or filters on any subject, even if your intentions are strictly honorable....

Oh wait, that is only a book, and if you can't grab it on torrent, download it from iTunes, watch it on YouTube or Hulu, then it goes unnoticed....

But I think the comedy skit by Denis Leary summed it up clearly:

Especially near the end of the film when the Japanese fishermen are having a Dolphin Stabbing Party and the ocean is RED!

In some countries, eating dophins is consider normal. While on other countries dogs and cats are a main diet staple. However, there is a very large group of people (Hindu/India about 1.3 Billion) think eating Cows is DISGUSTING and CRUEL.

Calm down folks....it is all about the differences of cultures. what makes you think your culture is right or better than others.

Watched it a few months ago. So fucked up. Especially how they are selling the meat with such high mercury levels to their own schools. It is amazing the whaling commission hasn't acknowledged dolphins and porpoises to protect them.

I read it in high school. IIRC it's more about the unsafe working conditions for the people than it is about the evil of eating cows.

My point was that we get all emo about the Japanese for eating whales and dolphins yet we chomp away on chicken, pork, and beef like om nom nom. Pigs are smart animals, too.

If you watched it there are images that cannot be rigged, fake, or just taken advantage of. I agree with you on many documentaries these days being BS, this however was not one of them.

Jackass. You have no idea what you are talking about. Sure it's bad that they are slaughtering WILD animals to near extinction ( chicken, pigs, cows in are country are domesticated and raised, big difference) Dolphin meat is being sold as whale meat. The problem is the mercury levels in dolphins. FDA steps in when there are more than 1.0 PPM in fish. Average for dolphin meat is 21.6 PPM. They are distributing this poisonous meat as whale meat to avoid the mercury testing. Would you like your child to be eating meat that will give them mercury poisoning? If you lived there you wouldn't have a choice, because they are donating it to the elementary schools. In addition, the politics on the subject are so corrupt it is laughable. For you to try to compare this to the American meat industry is pathetic and laughable. Know what you are talking about next time.
