Yeah, but we live in the U.S. $52k is not that great.

That is half of my income gone to transportation and housing BEFORE TAXES.

It's all relative. $52K in CA doesn't give you the spending power of $52K in Honduras.

The top 1% of the richest people in the world holds over like ...20-50% (not sure just a rough estimate from what I can remember in my econ class 3 years ago ) of all money in the world, so I guess it is perspective

The concept of purchasing power parity. One's income is a really poor (no pun) indicator of one's quality of life. The "Big Mac Index" published by The Economist is probably a better indicator of how wealthy you are. Take your annual income and see how many Big Macs you can buy. 9. Zürich, Switzerland - 15 minutes
10. Dublin, Ireland - 15 minutes

and compare them to the slowest earned....

1. Nairobi, Kenya - 158 minutes
2. Jakarta, Indonesia - 136 minutes
3. Mexico City, Mexico - 129 minutes
4. Caracas, Venezuela - 126 minutes
5. Manila, Philippines - 88 minutes
6. Cairo, Egypt - 82 minutes
7. Santiago de Chile, Chile - 69 minutes
8. Bratislava, Slovakia - 62 minutes
9. Mumbai, India - 61 minutes
10. Budapest, Hungary - 59 minutes

The point of all of this is to never be mesmerized by the nominal ($) value of anything. In order to truly comprehend things such as wealth a more through analysis is necessary.

With all of that said, I'm enormously grateful for what I have.
