Audio - Video Experts. Little help please..

I have a 42 inch Plasma, a Pioneer Elite with a Sat. (Directv) box, Sony playstation 3 for my blu ray and I want to get either a soundbar or a home theater in a box with wireless speakers. Wife prefers the soundbar.

Room is about 12X12 and all I really want to improve the sound for is when I watch the blu ray movies. When I watch regular Satellite tv its fine but when I watch a movie the audio is bad, especially the dialogue. I dont want to spend a lot of money because I only use this room on weekends.

Can anyone that knows what they are talking about make some suggestions. I really dont want to start listening to lots of different set ups as its not a huge investment. I already have a dedicated home theater room where I sunk lots of cash.

Thank you..

I normally don't recommend sound bars ever, because no matter the quality, the simple laws of physics don't allow it to work the way it wants to. However, looking at your room shape and setup, it seems like as ideal of a placement for a sound bar as it's going to get for a not acoustically designed room. you have flat walls at equal distance on both sides of the TV, you sit relatively close to the TV, it's a pretty small and square room which allows the sound to properly bounce off the walls to create the 5.1 effect. I would go with a Yamaha sound bar, I've heard nothing but good things about them. Maybe a YAS71 or even a YSP900, anything more would be overkill IMO.
That been said, I would still recommend a nice entry-medium level 5.1 mini system but of course the downside would be wires, I really can't recommend wireless 5.1 because you need a way to power the surrounds, which means installing power outlets on the ceiling and it's a PITA. Since its not the living room or anything, I don't think having wires would be too bad, cover it with some molding.

I would take a look at the vizio sound bar. Soundbars suck, but there better than the tv speakers.

For a good HTiB look here: http://www.accessories4less.com/make...od-Dock/1.html

You can run 2.1, 3.1, 5.1 or 7.1. And honestly running wires to the surrounds is pretty easy
