Just purchased my BMW, been garaged it's whole life and I would love to keep it that way

Anyone know where to get a good portable garage for a decent price? So far I have only found camping cover tents, they look like portable garages but I am not sure they would be strong enough for any wind.

Let me know your thoughts...

Most portable garages are for light duty sitauations, are you looking for a more permanent solution in the form of a set up canopy? Shelterlogic has some nice products.

Thanks for your reply. I am in a rental house that may be sold soon, so I am just looking for something that will shelter the bimmer for the time being. Under $300 would be nice since I may never use it again after we move (hopefully getting a place with a garage). Let me know your thoughts

It really depends on the weather in your area. Most shelters under $300 are not going to be very strong as they were meant for shows or detailing, just keeping things dry. Heavy snow and high winds will be a problem for those frames, even if they are staked & weighted.

Maybe spend the cash for something stronger and use it at your new place as a shed later?

This is possible. Hoping for a two car canopy actually, my girlfriend has a nice bimmer too, any ideas on where I can find a decent one?

I have one of ese to cover my waverunners and it works good but be warned- I would NEVER use it for my car. Even anchored really good it came loose a little in a windstorm last winter. Pole was banging against my (covered thankfully) waverunner and if hat was a car your looking at a whole mess of serious damage! I just anchored mine to j hooks driven in the dirt on the edge of the driveway. You could cement it in I guess... But then not portable anymore.

Good info, thanks so much. I decided I am going to buy some plywood and 4x4 posts and build a 3 sided shed with an open front. Hope it turns out ok

Sounds like a good way to damage your car in the first storm. Basically, if you want a structure it better be strong enough to withstand some wind and as soon as you start holding up sheets of plywood, you're talking serious force. The only thing I would do that might be relatively inexpensize would be a car cover. A Rhino shelter might be ok if you know what you're doing and know how to reinforce and anchor it.

its not extremely windy over here but it is probably going to be cheaper for me to build a decent carport out of wood than buy a portable carport that may or may not be sufficient... plus if I build a shed I can have somewhere to store my tools

It looked like the house I was living in would never sell, turns out right after I was going to build a small cheap carport, people are interested and made an offer... so that idea went out the window.

Back to carport ideas - has anyone purchased the 20x30 carport from costco? If so how is the quality?

I built a 20 x 30 car port in 2006 (for three cars). The materials were about $3,500. I used a steel roof. Mine uses 6x6 posts and 2x10 framing. All pressure treated wood of course. It took a few weekends to build. Mine is way over built, but I live in the mountains next to a river that floods so the weather is tough. If you want a car port just for your car a 10 x 20 would work well and you could get away with 4x4's but 6x6's stay more true than 4x4's.

I actually meant 10x20, has anyone purchased the 10x20 carport from costco? it seems like a decent one, better than others. let me know

If you're not parking on the street, you're already saving it from a ton of abuse. I'd skip the garage and pay for a quality detail twice a year. That will preserve the looks and it's much less hassle.

Yes, I live in the Northwest. This winter is suppose to be significantly worse than normal.
