How to privately sell a $100,000+ car?

I'd try to make this short, but I never can.

My dad has asked me to sell his Bentley for him, he absolutely doesn't want to pay anyone a cut of anything. i.e - no brokers etc. He also doesn't want to trade it in when buying his new car.

So, I was going to approach it just like any other car; was going to put it on autotrader. I thought for a *second* about craigslist, but I don't think it's a good idea. Ebay I'm afraid of too many winners who don't pay.

I want to reach a national audience, because on the coasts, people are asking for $10,000-$15,000 more than here in the midwest.

He's going to try selling it first within his "contacts" - but if that doesn't work then it's to the internet we go.

My biggest concerns are people saying they want to buy it, just to drive it, and getting mugged.

Is there any sort of autotrader for more expensive cars?

Thanks!

Forget Ebay, Autotrader, etc. List in the DuPont Registry. That mag reaches your entire target demo globally speaking.

Autotrader is fine. There are plenty of high end cars. Like any car I sell I do not let people drive it until the cash is in hand. I will take them for a drive but they don't get behind the wheel. Not too hard to weed out the joy riders and potential threats if you use you head and pay attention to detail. Someone looking to buy a $100k will likely be driving something nice, on males look at their watch. Dead give away. Might be in jeans and casual but still will be wearing the high end watch. On women look at the ring. Lady looking for a high caliber car will likely be wearing a nice sized rock. Offer to have the car inspected at the local dealer. Have copies of all service work on hand to show. Not as tough sa it sounds to sell $100k+ vehicles. Dupont Registry is OK but only published once a month. Skip ebay. Craig's list may draw in local undesirables to see what else you have. I typically will meet buyers in a public place away from my home.

Thanks for the help. Taking photos today and getting it up sometime this week.

Stay tuned for photos of his new car.

If it is a Continental, I would think you could use some of the more plebain sources, since they are not as rare as the Arnages. But good luck with the sell. Do keep us informed of your experience.

autotrader, 6speed, teamspeed, cars.com, fchat

lotta scammers out there but online still reaches the largest audience IMO.

I'd never deal with Ebay for cars what a headache.
