Best BMW Engines including Motorsport and Aircraft
During my recent trip to Munich, I stopped in to check out the BMW Museum. The place is amazing! You could spend days there discovering the history of BMW. One of the best rooms is dedicated to some of their best engines ever made. It doesn't have all of them but you can access and read about each one in the room. Put together a short video of them to share with my brethren. Anyone else been there recently?
I can't wait to head back to Europe next year! Cheers... |

So, a little known fact for you, the German outdoor power tool company, Stihl, uses a BMW airplane engine concept from the 1930's for some of it chain saws. One of the Stihl engineers was touring the BMW museum and saw that back in the 1930's BMW produced an airplane engine that had no oil sump and instead used a "2-stroke" Oil/Gas mixture to lubricate the engine. Stihl calls the engine technology "4-Mix". I have one of their pole saws that has the 4-Mix engine. It is really neat to hear it run, if you are used to power tools with high-revving 2-stroke engines. It is also quite powerful.

LOL.. that's a pretty cool and obscure fact. Funny, maybe that is why I love Stihl so much... had no idea of the connection with BMW. Some things just have a way of working out eh?
