Lets go. Netbooks

Looking for a netbook as im studying in London next year and I want something smaller and more mobile than my antiquated giant laptop.

Looking to spend a max of 500-600 dollars so no MacBooks.

My rommie has an HP mini 110, really basic model and the trackpad sucks. Possibly looking at an HP Mini 210 or a Dell Inspiron Duo...its not just the screen thing that gets me. It has a top of the line Atom processor and Windows 7 premium.

So lets go. Anybody else have good recommendations?

Dont do Dell of HP, Get the new Lenovo S series Netbooks, built for reliability

Get the best processor they have for them, about $500 for the highest model IIRC

id go toshiba. i had one for like 5 years and it worked great. but now i have a imac and yea apples amazing

Asus hands down. They have the most reliable laptops period.

I have Asus 1005-HA from about 2 years ago. It is rock solid with a 10.5 hr battery life.

Yeah I dont know a lot about netbook processors and I just assume that Intel chips are good.

idk about that, IBM builds their computers to withstand a lot of wear and tear. the Thinkpad was probably the best made laptop ever built for reliability, and IMB owns Lenovo.

My dad still uses his ThinkPad from ten years ago. Hes lit it on fire, dropped it 30ft onto solid concrete, and has run the processor at 140% for all of that time and it still runs damned quickly and reliably.

Too bad I dont have the money for a good one right now.

But onto the Lenovo S. They have a very basic processor and a 5400 RPM drive. I want portability, not snails pace slow.

Speed on a netbook wouldnt be my concern, they are too small and I would be worried about reliability. I would sacrifice some speed to make sure it would be reliable as you will just be doing internet browsing and no gaming I would assume

Lenovo is not IBM. IBM sold their consumer division off to Lenovo a few years ago. Lenovo is a chinese company.

I do a lot of photo editing and I need my RAW files to be accessed quickly and I dont want photoshop to crash out or be very sluggish.

Then you shouldn't buy a netbook. You need an ultra portable laptop. i.e., - 12" screens

I dont need a 15" laptop to do photo editing. Not when I can get a very high performing 11.6" laptop.

I didnt know they have become a contender in reliability, but i find it hard to believe 3x more reliable than Apple and IBM

What is so hard to believe? I have 1 Asus netbook and 1 Asus laptop. They are rock solid. Not to mention their accidental warranty. If you spill your coffee on the laptop they will replace it for free.
