Mercedes and BMW details...
So as I started up my e92 m3 with the push start button, couldnt help me but noticed how I felt comfortable and sound and complete in it. Down to the sound of the window sliding up a but when you close the door; "sshhiffpt."
Today I went down to the Mercedes dealership, not for myself, never would I be caught dead at a mercedes dealership(did you notice how the second time I made mercedes a low cased m, thats how much I dislike them). A friend has just put the down payment on a 2011/12 Mercedes CLS with the AMG package. There was not one thing, not ONE thing that I liked on it. When I opened the door, it felt cheap, when I sat in it the drivers seat, no wait... I didn't sit in it, I merely peaked in because I wasn't happy being near it; nothing sparked me to say, "sure take my 80,000." I got bored at looking at the dealerships colors, black, white and grey. Apparently thats the main mercedes colors. They also had the feeling as if everyone in the dealership was stuck up and had empty souls. Even the gate guard had the snobby look(maybe it was the color of my skin?), anyways the whole vibe mercedes benz is disgusting. Their other vehicles didnt compare and feel the same as BMW vehicles do. I have to say that mercedes was built for the snobby, selfish type with the need for people to see them and be self confident 100% of the day. At the end of my trip all I can think of and tell my friend is, do what makes you happy man and get what you've always wanted, but he kept talking a lot about that v8 sound coming from my engine, I could tell he was a bit curious but still wanting that disgusting mercedes and its class of ignorance.

Christ, keep your biased shit out of the gen auto section please. How did that interior feel cheap to you? Of course, you couldn't be bothered to disgrace yourself by sitting in such a lowly machine.
You're obviously not apart of the audience this car is marketed towards. I never understood how people are capable of being so biased for or against a brand.

This CLS felt cheap indeed. Granted I didn't test drive, maybe there is something I'm missing.

I love Mercedes. BMW is more sporty but Mercs just feel like solid cars. You probably went to a snobby dealership, I could name a couple BMW dealership near me like that as well.

I love BMW as much as the next guy, but Mercedes makes great cars too. As for the dealership being snobby, the dealer I take my BMW too is snobby as hell. My first time going in, no one even greeted me, I felt as though I had uninvited, walked into someone else's home.
Now that I've frequented it more, I receive a warmer reception from my CA and SA, but I was really turned off by my first experience. And you could tell by opening the door that the car wasn't even worth your fancy rear end sitting in the seat? Cmon man, Mercedes makes great interiors to go along with their great cars. I personally feel that Mercedes leather is superior to the leather that BMW uses in their car, my e90's interior felt cheap and the leather felt very 'cheesy'. When I sit in a Mercedes seat I feel like I'm sitting on a cow, and I love it. BMWs may be more sporty in general, and I do prefer them more, but this is a bit ridiculous. |

Came from 7 years of MB. Nothing wrong with them as they suit a particular driving style that's different from what BMW's offer. Performance expectations aside, MB's build quality is noticibly higher. Things simply don't squeak and rattle as much in a Merc. Misc. parts and knobs appear to feel heavier like a higher gauge plastic was used with less hollowness. Funny thing that shocked me was when I first got my 1er, I pressed the headliner to get a feel for it and it flexed while making crunchy fiberboard noises. In Mercs, they are rock solid. Eitherway, it doesn't bother me. The costs BMW saved on the little things; they gave it back to me with the ridiculously oversized engine.

Look Donovan, I'm giving you shit because you sound like a stuck up brand snob. I respect your right to have an opinion, I just think yours is ignorant.
Stating things like "disgusting Mercedes and its class of ignorance" and "I merely peaked in because I wasn't happy being near it" says a lot about your narrow-minded view on cars. You then dismiss the dealership as being a fault of Mercedes itself. There are two BMW and Mercedes dealerships near me, both paired close to one another. It's night and day between the dealerships for both BMW and Mercedes depending on which pair I decide to visit. Snobs are snobs; it's not like Mercedes actively focuses on looking for snobby salesmen. Another thing: black, silver, white and grey cars are the highest selling colors of paint, so no shit they'll be flooding the lots with those colors. I see a million shades of grey at my local Bimmer dealers. I think the CLS63 is amazing looking. It's grown on me, which I love in a design. And for what it's worth, sitting in the current E63 AMG makes me doubt they skimped on the material quality in the CLS. Everything felt solid, like granite, as well. And now for an image dump to bring this thread up a few levels.

x 2 , thanks Nikk, for the high reso pictures. These look way more interesting and exciting than what I saw today. What I did today was see the vehicle and noticed some imperfections that I didn't like and I wrote about this, furthermore, I'm far from stuck up, I can only appreciate the SL series mercedes.
Please, more feedback on who has driven the CLS.

As a long time BMW owner I used to have the same misguided perceptions about other brands. Being a complete fanboy only hurts yourself. You miss out on what's happening in the auto industry.
It's all about bias and perception and wearing blinders. You base your life on stereotypes? That's pretty sad. If you had a bad experience at a dealer (a reseller) but didn't investigate the product carefully and do some homework, then you only ended up hurting yourself and nobody else. Just about every modern quality performance car built today has its merits. Because it doesn't fit your own (often misguided) perceptions doesn't mean it sucks. You need to grow up and realize what works for you means only something to you, and not necessarily the rest of the world. fwiw, I thought I'd never be in a Merc until I bought a new E63 AMG. It's a great grocery getter and an all around perfect comfort travel car that ended up suiting me just fine. But I had already taken off the fanboy blinders. |
