One way car rental: San Fran to Portland

I'm going to be in Portland Oregon for a wedding, and I'd like to fly into San Francisco, rent a car, and drive up the coast to Portland (and stop by Bandon Dunes as a little side trip), then fly home out of Portland. The rates on one way car rentals from the major agencies are pretty obscene, even for a some bogus econo box. I was hoping to be able to rent something that at least has a drop top.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how the best way to do this? Is renting from a major rental agency my only choice? Hoping that there might be some option out there I'm not aware of.

Thanks in advance for the input.

They're going to be obscene because they're going to have to pay for an employee to drive it all the way back to san francisco then fly back to Portland.
