Hyundai Genesis Coupe - What are your thoughts?
Curious to hear from those that have driven one. Specifically, how do they feel in comparison to our BMWs? I understand the total refinement and luxury may not be there, but is it a worthy contender? Does it offer (to some degree) a similar driving experience? High speed stability, road/steering feedback, etc.
The 2.0T seems to have a lot of potential. And the 3.8 seems to have some power right out of the box. From a power perspective, these are interesting cars at first glance. But to my original point, I'm really curious to hear how they drive, interior quality, etc. Thanks! |

The track model has Brembo brakes, while we have single piston floating calipers. So just because It has "BREMBO" their track model (top of their line) can out run a M3 (top of 3 series line) Jaja!!! Man!!! gooood joke!!! |

Yea, the brakes are nice. The whole package is attractive on paper. Have you driven one? If so, sounds pretty good. Gotta go drive one sooner than I thought, maybe...

The 3.8 V6 hangs with G37's. Great bang for your buck and it's very comfortable. If you're looking for a DD that's comfy and sporty then you can't go wrong. My only gripe was that the Auto felt clunky. Doesn't have the precision of the BMW, but then again it's like 30k, I think. The General 3 series is going to have 3 series fanb0ys telling you that the car is cheap and it sucks. Ask a mod to move the thread to off topic general automotive discussions and get some real non-bias opinions. They have come a long way and are making great progress.

My friend has Gen coupe 3.8. For that price, the car is very nice. You can drive 300hp car for 28k~30k. Interior looks cheap but overall performance is pretty good. Get used Gen coupe and get "Vega body kit". Looks much better than stock Gen coupe.

Im a typical bmw snob and attention whore and cannot phantom the idea of telling women I drive a hyundai, however they did come a long ways but not for me. For the guys that praise it soo much just trade your bmw in for one.

Don't expect much from the General forums. Most people here are badge whores and 17 years old. Probably couldn't tell you what the difference is between a 328 and a scooter.

It's a "Hyundai" for gods sake. I don't particularly like manufacturers who rip off others original designs. Anyway I'd love to take one for a test drive. I'll try it this weekend if possible.

That said, this forum is full of fanboys (especially the 335i guys ). The current 3 series is not the end-all car. It's a good car, but by no means is it great. It's too bad there are so many badge whores around these parts. I too am not a fan of driving around a Hyundai, but hey, get what fits the bill. I think Hyudai has made a lot of progress over the years.

I actually tested one on a closed course at Pomona Fairgrounds. It was the 3.8 track model fully loaded. Being as un-biased as possible:
The power is good, but the delivery of the power is very rough (i.e.shaky shifter and vibrations from the pedals). 7/10 The handling is better than average, you can get the rear end loose and those Brembos really bite with minimal fade. 9/10 The transmission has somewhat long throws and the Hyundai engineers had a terrible idea for the reverse mechanism. Reverse is RIGHT next to 1st, but you don't have a typical push the shifter down or no slide up ring, nothing. Just a beep that lets you know you're in reverse instead of 1st.(A lot of potential for backing into stuff if not paying attention) 4/10 Exterior styling (always subjective) 2/10 Interior styling (still subjective) I'd have to say is modern and roomy. 6/10 I'd personally go for the turbo model with less power, but that's me. |

Looks ok, I think they copied the Infiniti G37 but seems to be a good value. I would get a Mustang or 370Z before this though.
