Computer won't do boot up...

So my gf claims it was fine when she went to eat then came back to it & it would not come back on.

It turns on, but does nothing. I get absolutely nothing on the monitor. I swapped monitors to rule that out.

I know its not booting to windows b/c I do not get the standard audio when windows boots.

I reset the PC 50 times, I removed & reinserted the video card, etc. Still nothing.

Without more details, my guess would be your power supply has gone bad. I've had what your describing happen before and that was the culprit.

Are fans spinning? Disc drives opening? Any lights at all? POST?

Doesn't matter if it works or not. If a stick of RAM has gone completely bad the BIOs might not even show a POST message. If you remove the bad stick you have a very good chance of at least seeing a message saying something in the POST.

Right now you should be trying to isolate the issue, not solve it yet.

I don't have another vid card to try. MB light is on

Try making sure that nothing is loose inside. Also, if you have any spare parts, try swapping things in and out to rule stuff out. Otherwise you may need to take it to a repair shop or somewhere they would have enough spare parts to diagnose the problem.

Not true at all, you can easily run with 1 stick of RAM. It won't run as fast as before, but it will run.

If the RAM checks out OK, then Its either the VGA or the Mobo gone bad.

So if her PC is just a cheap Dell, it would be better she buys a new one.

Hard drive? No. You'd still see the BIOS screens on the monitor.
Graphics card? No. You'd hear the POST beep.
RAM? Probably not.
Motherboard? My guess.
PSU? Also a possibility, if one voltage died, you'd still see some lights.

I was joking. TBH, I don't really care, I was just attempting to make humor out of the myriad different suggestions.

I don't know anything about computers anyhow.

It's really weird, but sometimes computers can do that because they just store too much shit on their hard drive and the windows startup can't load properly because of some tiny discrepancy in what's written onto the drive.

If you can actually get the computer to start up again, it's easy to fix to prevent it from happening again. Anyone can do this on their computers to prevent something similar from happening. All you have to do is go into your C:/Windows folder, and find the folder in that called "system 32" and just delete it, then restart. This will clear out all the temporary junk files you don't need any more, but windows keeps anyway. Try it out
