Police profiling certain cars...this has gone too far!
Here is the break down. My friends met up at a parking lot while waiting to go on a caravan to a big SoCal meet. They're Evo drivers. I used to be one of them. The meet was an official SoCalEvo meet at South Coast Mitsubishi in Costa Mesa, everything was legit, OK'd by the owner. There were roughly 100ish Evos. This caravan consisted of about 20 cars.
Funny thing is that they get referred to as ricers, but they actually keep it on the tracks. The forum and the members do not tolerate "I beat this car today", "who will win? me or him", "met up with friends tonight for friendly runs", etc. One of my friends just got this letter in the mail. It's bullshit like this that eventually got me to get the 335i and sold the Evo. Stopped while doing 40mph in the streets, while the SUV next to me is doing double my speed. Random smog stations and unwanted visits to the ref stations. Here is the letter that broke the camel's back. We have our lawyer friends working on the situation and numerous of us have emailed local news stations. The letter was sent to my friend because they thought that they were racing in the caravan...at 10Am...on a Sunday morning. |

"was observed... in preparation for illegal street racing or was actively involved in illegal street racing"
Couple of questions: 1. "Preparation" ? Was there a checkered flag and cars lined up? So cops are psychic now? Minority Report? Thought-crime? 2. Who "observed" it? If cops saw it in action, wouldn't they just pull people over? This just sounds like hearsay by someone other than the cops.

Funny thing is that the one who got the letter is the most stock car...RS model, no wing, no tint, no wheels, no drop. We're just trying to spread the word of how ridiculous things are here. They have smog stations because our cars with exhaust put out so much crap..yet the SUV's with magnaflows get off scotch free when a stock SUV is not exactly friendly for the environment. |

My friend in an evo got pulled over for going to slow....it was a construction zone so he was driving slower and more carefully (like your supposed to) but he still managed to get pulled over.

No, no, no. With the next great earthquake in California, everything east of the San Andreas Fault will fall into the Atlantic.

If your friend is indeed telling the truth, and none of them are racing then I really really really hope your friend and his lawyer will sue the pants off the police and gather as much media attention on this as possible. I understand the imtimadation factor by law enforcement agency, much like minor traffic tickets, it's easier for them to witch hunt the little guys out there. Most people will just cave and either pay the fines and move on..it's completely BS

It's kind of funny but the first two sentences in that letter can be interpreted two different ways. What is the violation of the California Vehicle Code mentioned in the second sentence? Is it their involvement in an operation to stop illegal street racing or is it the illegal street racing itself?
Given the LAPD's past performance record, I'm thinking it's probably the operation they're involved in that is in violation.

newsflash: cops can do almost whatever they want, they can even kill unlawfully and get away with it easily, and unless you can prove that you weren't racing in front of a judge there is just nothin you can do about it :P

Wow, this really makes my blood boil.
I love how, "The operator of the vehicle was gathering with other vehicles" which was "observed at 405 Freeway south of 118". Um, isn't that what other cars do as they drive down a HWY? Now I'm frustrated. I'm going home.

Reminds me of the movie "Minority Report." I didn't realize we currently had the psychic technology to predict a crime about to happen before it actually does.

Wow, I'd like to say I'm not surprised, but that is just riggoddamndiculous. I really hope you guys fight this and win. I know most cops are out there protecting us all, but there are still many out there like this who simply target & profile based on some bad apples. It's funny when you talk about situations like this to those involved in law enforcement or those who staunchly back them. Their response is always the same - we don't target or profile, we simply act on fact and situations that have repeatedly occurred. Riiiiiiiight, that's why you see time and time again young people getting pulled over in nice cars while others in POS's fly by unhasseled. Ever see cops target the crazy soccer-mom's in minivans? They drive like maniacs!

California should have shared this psychic technology with Virginia.
