Raced a Corvette Z06 on the freeway

I know....racing is bad, but this Z06 (with custom exhaust, maybee 02 or 03 model) wanted to play and I wanted to see how my 335i would do against it....so we did 2 run sfrom 60 to about 120 mph...

...all I can say is WOW! the 335 did a lot better that I expected. The Vette didn't pull on me as bad as I thought it would....

That custom exhaust was really loud....

Just wanted to share...

The C5 Z06 only had 385hp

later models got 405hp. In any case the 0-60 on them was around 4.6-4.7 seconds, not too much quicker than the 335

Only the 2001 had 385hp. 2002-2004 had 405hp. GM even claimed 0-60 of 3.9 in the 385hp model, but they all routinely run low 4s.

Not to mention that the C5 Z06 traps 114+ easily in the quarter. A lot quicker than a 335i.

In terms of straight line performance the C5 Z06 is very similar to the base C6 Vette. Add a procede into the mix and it should be a good race, but stock for stock the american muscle is going to prevail.

True. The 2002-2004 Z06's are very similar to the current C6 is terms of straight performance. Based on multiple things I've read, it seems to be a drivers race.

One thing I have noticed is that there are alot of Vette drivers who do not understand the gearing of their cars and don't get the full potential out of them when it comes time to "have fun" w/others.

In "race" mode, at 60 mph a C5 Z06 or C6 should be in 2nd gear (you can take 1st gear to about 55-58 mph) and stay in that gear until about 85 mph, but you'd be surprised at how many Vette drivers will only drop down into 3rd gear at that speed and run. They do that based on other experiences (hell, the tranny and rear end on most cars would almost drop out if you shifted into 2nd at 60 mph) but what happens is that the car still performs good, but others come away with the impression that the car is not as fast as they thought it would be.

Not saying that's what happenned here, just an observation I've picked up as I've chatted with other Vette owners.

yea the same goes for the auto c6. a stab at the throttle at highway speed will put u in 3rd but when you can kick it own to 2nd the car just EXplodes forward

I was just thinking the same.. Or maybe the Z06 had 4 flat tires? And some pistons weren't firing?? And there were two tons of bricks in the trunk??

or dead hookers? I had a 335 try to race me on the highway a week or two ago and by 120 I was at least 75-100 feet ahead of him and I only dropped it into 4th at 65 mph. I was being nice.

He corrected me.

It apparently has 184 hp.

Maybe he has 2 motors in the car. 184*2= 368 HP.

That would work too. Better upgrade the brakes first.
