2012 Ford Shelby GT500 Vs. 2012 Corvette Grandsport
Both cars are basically priced equal. Cars will never be tracked and only driven on weekends.
Which would you choose and why? Educated answers only please.

Corvette, the mustang is a great ride but it still weighs nearly 3800 lbs. The GT 500 has the raw power but won't do as well in the corners. Also, consider the fact that the Mustang has 4 seats while the Vette only 2, will you be carrying a family around?

Drive both and decide. The Mustang is far less expensive to mod if that is in your plans.

To be 100% honest with you, if this is just to be a weekend car, I would buy a 3 year old, low mileage Z06. You can find one in your price range and it will run laps around both of those cars.

I think for your situation you would be happier with the Corvette. Vettes were made for "only driven on weekends and just you and your wife". But if it were my money I'd buy the Shelby, mainly because of personal preference.
There is no doubt that the Corvette is a budget supercar and would probably be more fun on those spirited weekend drives. I'd take the Shelby because it's still a very fun car and you could possibly drive it every day and be more comfortable when you do. I think it's more exciting than the Vette and since Ford improved the suspension and the engines it really is pretty good in the twisties (based on what I've seen/read). I've always dreamed of owning a Mustang and I'm so over Corvettes, but that's just me

I love both, but I would go for the mustang. If it were for a track, the corvette could be the better pick, but your only driving the car around town, I doubt you will be taking very fast corners. The mustang is also cheap to mod and it's already a monster given your looking at the gt500
I always wanted one as a personal toy |

This is what I was afraid of.
And the Z06 is definitely in the mix as well. I'm not ready to buy yet but if I were buying this year these would be what I'd be looking at.

Its top of the list.
I just wanted to see some quality car talk between car enthusiasts. I cant ask this question on a corvette or mustang forum and get reasonable answers but I do love both vettes and gt500's. I sill love driving my 335is and am truly happy I bought the car but I like to start planning my next car early. My biggest fear though is that chevy will fuck up the C7 while ford will probably improve the Shelby but I hope I'm wrong.

I'm not sure why you think that. I think Chevy has built a lot of confidence that they know how to build a world beater. I've heard lots of rumors on the c7 but I have a hard time believing that they'll mess it up.

I'm hoping they do improve the interior some.

I think one of the engineers for the C7 said that the interior is one of the areas getting a ton of focus on the C7 so that the Corvette will finally have the interior it deserves.

I think its a must for corvette. Seems to be the only negative aspect of the car.

Having experienced both cars I can tell you the z06 is a better car.
Its faster, handles better, funner to drive, with less mods and less HP can still smoke a more heavily modded Shelby( Ask me how I know). Overall its just a frigging ridiculous freight train that will cause your brain blunt force trauma. And if you have the option to buy one and you don't, It's because your not MAN enough! |
