Need a fun DD, help me make a decision
Alright guys, so I've got my E82 and I love it - but right now I need another car in the garage for DD n' stuff.
I've basically narrowed it down to a few options. 1) 2012 GTI 2DR MT (base no sunroof) 23,000 (I get supplier pricing) - This things pretty cheap, but I can't stand the horrendous plaid seats. I'd probably throw in some recaro pole positions (take out back seats) and stage 2+ it so I could play around with it. Only con I can think of it it's a little overpriced for what it really is and its FWD ): 2) Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 6MT R Spec - ~26500 - this car is alright... I'm partial to the looks and not really sure of the performance potential. Stock it's basically a slug. It's got a great warranty but I'd probably only keep it for 3-4 years. The new one is coming out next year but that thing is hideous IMO. It handles real well but I feel like a GTI would run laps around this thing (even tuned). The tires are pretty small too. 3) 2012 Golf R 2DR base ~35000 - I've got a refundable deposit sitting down on this thing right now for MSRP. It's just a s***load for a VW and I'm having a hard time justifying 10k more for AWD (I live in Southern California anyways) and the other goodies. Although I'm assuming the resale on it will be absolutely excellent. And I could always drive it up to the mountains with no problems. The lack of LED's, recaros, and tinted headlights makes me feel ripped off. 4) S2000 - ~14-20k. w/ ~50k miles -No need to explain. Other cars I've considered is a WRX but I can't stand the interior. The 370z is too.... strange looking for my tastes. WWYD

1) This doesn't sound like a DD when you put in recaros, remove the back seats, and tune it... but it would be fun. 2) If you like the genesis, it is probably pretty good given the RWD and would be reasonably fun, but it seems like you would be buying a poor-mans 135i when you already have a 135i, which wouldn't make sense to me. I would want something different in function if I was to buy another car. 3) I like the Golf R, but I can't stomach the price. The resale would probably be alright after 3 years. You may as well check out an WRX STi, which may be a bit better than the regular WRX interior. 4) S2000 would be really fun, but IMO doesn't meet the practicality factor needed by a DD... but maybe your opinion is different. If you have time, consider the new Subaru BRZ, because it will be a bit more practical and should be of the same spirit. other options: 5) If you can wait, check out the 2012 Focus ST. Because you don't really need AWD, I would probably pick the ST over the Golf R as long as you like the styling (plus you should be able to get recaros from the factory). It may end up being $5k+ cheaper than the Golf R. 6) Mazdaspeed3, if you can stand the torque steer and the interior. 7) 06-07 Mazdaspeed6 8) Subaru Legacy GT / spec.B ('07-'09): Decent quality interior, fun, relatively lightweight, and can be tuned easily if that is your thing. 9) Golf/A3 TDI: Practical, good torque so it feels faster than it is, and can be tuned easily.
