Highest Mileage BMWs in the World!
We've compiled a list of some high mileage BMWs on our blog and we're wondering if anyone knows of any others we could add to our list.
http://www.endrasbmw.com/15/worlds-longest-competition/ Goes to show we can easily put half a million miles on our near vintage BMWs given regular oil and engine services!

Garage List 1969 Restored Merce ... [7.50]
2011 M3 Coupe TRADED [7.34] 1987 BMW 535is [1.00] Cars from the Past [6.50] The ///M3 Engine S65 [9.59] |
1987 e28 Turns 25 years young in 2012 @ 423,176 KM and still ticking
Ours right now shows 423,176 KM on the odometer. Has been looked after maintenance wise by yours truly once the BMW warranty expired. Still has the original engine and transmission. At the time in 1987 it was just one step below the then ///M5. To purchase my first ///M had to wait till 2004
Our 1987 535is has seen Canada and the US from coast to coast and then some. Needless to say she has sentimental value and will never ever be sold. Major repair have only been the clutch and break jobs. For this kind of milage I consider it normal maintenance. The transmission has a very tiny leak, however, not to the expend that I will have it rebuild. In 2005 someone felt it to be necessary to use a key on this fine automobile and keyed the car all around I mean all around leaving no part untouched. My daughter had trains in her eyes when she saw it that spring morning of 2005. Why people do this I never ever can understand. Anyway it required a complete paint job. Original BMW paint was used and the job done at a certified BMW body shop. I took off all the chrome trim and bumpers and had them refurbished. Unfortunately the refurbished bumpers did not stand the test of time and were replaced with new BMW bumpers all the way from Germany along with the two front fenders in the fall of 2011. Our 535is is all stock and we like it like this. This year the project will be to restore the interior not that it needs much work. Once that is done this car will be fit for another 381,496 KM to reach the 500,000 Mile mark (804,672 KM) Here are a few pictures of Bimmi (her name given by my daughter - once she returns her to me I will properly make it my track car since I will not take my ///M3 to the track other then to watch others). Best Regards to all you high milage drivers, Cheers, Rolf-Dieter

Amazing story! I can't believe the only mechanical repairs have been a clutch and brakes? That's unbelievable!!!
I hope to God you can smash through the 500,000 mile mark and hopefully that'll happen flat out on one of the world's most beautiful tracks. Here's a high mileage e28 535iM that we discovered in Oakville. These cars are truly something else... Regards, Alexander

This almost looks like the one in the Old Oakville Ontario abandoned Citation Motors BMW dealership. I have to drive by there some day and take a look ... it is amazing that the dealership looks like when it was left (I estimate over 20 years ago). There is a new e28 looks almost like my daughters in the show room. Here is the link ===> Click to view the site Regards, Rolf

Here are the links to the three original articles we wrote on the abandoned dealership: http://www.endrasbmw.com/10/1988-bmw...eft-untouched/ & http://www.endrasbmw.com/11/abandone...d-speculation/ & http://www.endrasbmw.com/03/for-sale...p-in-oakville/ It has recently been put up for sale ($3.6 million) and some of the showroom cars have moved out. Let us know if you see any other changes at Citation motors! Regards, Alexander.

I wish they included how much it has cost the person to keep the car running for so long and compare it to the option of getting a different car instead of keeping it.
I think that you could make a Chevrolet Cavalier pile up in mileage if you were willing to pay to keep it going.

So having taken three cars past the 200,000 mile mark:
1989 E30 325i - 256,000 - 18 years 1989 Acura Integra - 230,000 - 8 years 2006 E90 325i - currently at 200,000 - 6.5 years My observation is at some time you reach a point where you just want a new car. I do all my own maintenance and repairs and have a decent shop set up to do so. I could keep a car running forever if I wanted to (assuming parts are available), but I found, even with the great E30, new cars offer so much more in refinement and performance, that it is just not worth keeping an old high-mileage car as a daily driver. My 2 cents. |
