Dissapointed by my RS4.
To be honest I can't see what all this hoopla is about. The engine is a bit lazy and not THAT responsive, it's hard to heel and toe since the transmission has more jerkiness to it then a beef jerky factory. The Recaros are unsupportive. Their leather looks brittle. The Tranny is jerky. For the love of god, I can't see the difference between regular and S mode. The sound is meh, kinda like an neutered American muscle car past 4000rpm and an angry washing machine beneath that, kinda like a Cayman or 911. The engine is very linear (read boring). It really doesn't push you to squeeze every last rpm out of it. The gears are loooooooooooooong, too long and badly geared, I am always a gear too low and the car is jerky, or a gear too high and it's just pedestrian. The car really does not feel it's 420hp. The brakes are great, but the car is very wobbly under hard braking. Sure it handles VERY safe... but no fun under 8/10ths and its a yawn, over 9/10ths and 10/10ths its unsettled. Steering is very artificial, like a Playstation steeering wheel. Goes from feather light to heavy in an instant. Little feedback or genuine feel. This is a 70KUSD car??????? Also, I was stuck with getting Daytona Grey which is my least favourite color and it hasn't grown on me after a month, also I have the big no RS, non chromed side mirrors as well as a useless TV tuner that cannot pick up a SINGLE channel and switches off when your begin to drive. Also, the stupid dealer switched the standard buckets to Recaros which are too big for me.
Most damning. I am not smiling when I drive it. Zero. No chemistry. If it wasn't my company car, I would have gotten rid of it and gotten a barely used E46 M3. Now THAT was a car that made me smile at ANY speed. |

I am thinking that this guy does not have an RS4...
In his comment above he also stays that a E46 M3 CSL (??) won despite being ancient. Sure...lets compare that E46 M3 CSL to the MTM RS 4 Club Sport..that would be more appropriate.

The E90 M3 is an RS4 competitor. It's simply not fair to compare a RS4 to a coupe. There is obviously going to be a weight difference. But you are right, if you are using an M3 CSL, then the weight difference is going to be even greater and it would be unfair! Edit: Saying that, I think the RS4 does perform well. Earlier today I was looking at Top Gear times and the RS4 achieved 1.25.something and the M3 CSL achieved 1.28! If we look at the Top Gear stig times it also makes the RS4 faster than a CLS55 AMG, M5, Z4 M AND the Ferrari 575 GTC !

Well, I dont think the RS4 is an E46 or E92 M3 competitor. I think it is an E90 M3 competitor. The RS5 is the competitor for the E92 M3. I was just making the point that the RS4 does perform well against a lightweight coupe (E46 M3 CSL)

Someone correct me if I am wrong..but we dont have the Competition Package available on our cars in the US right? (I am an audi guy that converted to BMW...so I am not totally up on this stuff). Another thing..what the heck is an E90 M3...we dont have those here either....never heard of it..to be honest.

also in regards to the thread, it seems ur in my dillema at the begging, ill tell you this much, the rs4 is in now way feel like an m3. M3 makes u feel ever MPH. RS4 just scares u when you look down. Also the jerkiness is not the car, its u trying to drive on the quattro system. trust me ive been threw it all

Oh and I experienced no jerkyness from my 30min test drive. Maybe your car is having problems?
The RS4 once again felt really fast, but I prefer M3 steering feel and ease of oversteer. The RS4 is kinda hard to oversteer with, but with more time I'm sure I can get better. |
