I'm sure you'll buy what you want, but a 600cc supersport is a serious machine and can get you in trouble really easy
fat bikes as you call them are better suited for more experienced riders many will say to start with something small/crummy like a ninja 250/500 or something else small and then once you've got some miles under your belt then move up to something faster. Pick one up used, ride it for a few months then sell it for what you paid! do you guys have a MSF class in Canada? it's a starter class we have down here, and I highly recomend it the SV is sort of a nice broad appeal bike, it's user friendly enough to be a decent first bike, but even experienced riders find them fun to ride. I just don't want to see someone get a bike that's too much for them to handle, then have an experience that makes them not want to ride anymore or worse, get hurt. that said, people have started on 600cc supersport bikes and done OK, just be really careful with that throttle hand! best of luck either way, riding is fun that no car can match |

I'm not a big fan of Japanese bikes (funny though because I have one)
mainly because the completely redesign their "supersport" bikes every 3-4 years, so you've only got the "cool new one" for a very short time. if you're buying used, you've got even less time with the "new version" another thing to watch for is that those 600cc supersports are bigtime theft targets. I don't think there's a "bad" 600cc available though, all are pretty reliable R6, GSXR, CBR, ZX6 are all good bikes |

if you're going for that, I'd say to go for the 500cc version
250 is a great starter bike, but you may end up wanting for more power soon check insurance on the 500, and on the SV650s (sorry to harp on that bike!) the SV should be less to insure than the supersport bikes by a good margin (unless your insurance co just goes by CC's of the bike) |

I race a 99 R6 and a 2004 R1 and as a good bike for you I suggest that a 600 will be just fine for you. if your looking for a wider bodied bike I would suggest a ninja. they are a lil bit heavier but are wide and stable. I truely reccomend if you are going to ride on the street have about 1-2 grand set aside for leathers, helmet, boot, and gloves, ohhh and a good back protector. they have saved my life several times!!! I am serious have this stuff before you ride!!!
cant wait to see what ya choose |

what do you have for gear?
what size are you? What experience with bikes do you have? what size bike in cc and weight are you looking for? what style bike do you want (touring, race replica "RR", sport bike, road hogg)? This will give me enough info to put you in the perfect bike. let me know and I will set you up Mike |

like someone else changed...pretty much all the sport 600cc bikes are very good. the only thing i would suggest is gettiing a fuel injection version. 2002+ bikes should be more or less FI. it really all depends on you on which one you like for looks and how comfortable it is to you. take the msf course too if they have it and get some good gear (jacket, pants, and helmet).
here's my baby....K6 Gixxer 750.
