How many people have 2 cell phones?
I'm sure a lot of people here probably have free phones from work. My company gives all of us free blackberrys, and they've given me an iPad too. I've recently accepted a promotion in another division so I will no longer have a ton of work people calling me - just my boss and a few other people. Work has also disabled a few basic features such as MMS, and a couple of other things.
Without starting a war about OS systems/etc., I just am not a fan of my blackberry and my wife and friends all have iphones. I've been going back and forth about getting a personal line that would be an iphone and just carrying my blackberry during business hours and turning it off after i leave the office. It seems silly to carry 2 phones around and pay the cost when work gives me a free one, but I wanted to get the input of folks around here who maybe have the same problem or bit the bullet and carry 2 phones. Any input would be appreciated Last edited by Jet335i; 04-13-2012 at 08:13 AM.. |

I think its pretty common for people to have two cellphones now because lots of workplaces have switched over to giving their employees a cellphone instead of a landline. I am a student employee working for the federal government and I got a brand new blackberry for work. I hate it as I much prefer my Galaxy Nexus.
I think these days there are even some people with two personal cellphones that they pay for themselves and they also have a cellphone provided by their company. |

If you are working for a company/corporation "the man", always have a seperate phone for personal use. On company phones they can monitor your email, text and voice mail because it is company property for company use. I don't know about you but, I dont want my employer to know anything more than necessary about me.

I have the work & personal phone issue as well, but I just leave it be. I know if I used my work phone as my personal phone, I'd still have friends sending me NSFW pics, and that'd just feel weird.

I used to have two mobile phones a few years ago. Coworkers would always ask why I would pay for a personal phone when I have a company provided phone. I explained that my personal phone would never be controlled or monitored by the company, plus that I would still have a phone if the company went bust, revoked company phones, or changed carriers. I also had my personal phone number for many years that all my friends and family have. Most of my coworkers didn't think those benefits were worth the price of their own phone plan.
However, it was a hassle carrying around two phones. Working in the IT dept, I eventually setup my personal phone for company email and turned in my company phone. The company also started paying for my monthly data usage, so this solution was win/win for me.

stupid-phone for work, put on at the start and taken off when I leave. iphone for use the rest of the time. Not allowed, and have to sign off on all calls as business for the work phone, although LOTS of work calls go to my personal line after hours.

Personal iPhone and work blackberry. So nice to leave the work phone in the office during off hours or on vacation. Plus all the "big brother" reasons already noted.

Use to carry two but couldn't deal with it anymore. So blackberry works great for work and play.

I wish it could have been that easy. The company phones either had to be Palm Treos or a Blackberry. Only those of us in the IT dept were allowed to use our personal phones for email. The company was looking for ways to save money at the time, so we proposed canceling our entire corporate mobile phone plan and expensing the employees' personal phone plans entirely. This method would have actually saved the company thousands of dollars per month, but the plan was rejected because the employees didn't want to manage their own phone plan/bill even though they would be reimbursed for it. Needless to say, that company no longer exists and I have moved onto greener pastures.
