Don't buy a Dell.

Their Laptops have inherent overhaeting issues that can't be solved with a laptop cooler. Their customer support is as bad as there is out there.
First and last time I buy a dell.

hmmm - been using dell laptops for 10 years never had that much of a problem with overheating - the old inspiron I had I downloaded a different piece of software to control the fan to address this issue - then ran good for 6 years - have an Inspiron 6400 for about 2 months now and so far so good on that one. But I hear you if you get something wrong customer no service is horrible...what model do you have?

Well I use it to play games, never had any overheadting issues with my DELL work provided laptops, since it was never getting taxed.

I have a e1705 Inspiron with a 7800GS Nvidia Vid card.

HP's are 100x worse. i went through 3 in one year and everyone ended up in the shop and they'd end up sending me a new one cuz the motherboards just shot on the ones i had. Then i made a real smart move and switched to a macintosh. Second smartest decision of my life. first being driving a bmw

Actually Dell makes a great desktop their just not as solid on laptops...if you need a Windows based laptop get a Toshiba or an IBM.

Yeah I think IBM make the best laptops, but DELL is right up there with them and you cant beat the prices for a DELL. You truly get your moneys worth. Unlike Sony.

I agree that they run little toasty, but so does my Apple Powerbook. That said, I've never had one crap out on me.

The best non-Apple laptop I ever had was an IBM Thinkpad. Well thought out hardware, great keyboard. The only negative was all the crap that came pre-installed.

I have an inspiron XPS gen2 with an Nvidia 7800GTX (almost the same as yours but with the higher performance video card), and it runs much faster and cooler than my VOODOO. I never had any performance issues with the Dell, the Voodoo on the other hand was full of issues. I had to send my Voodoo in for repairs what PITA that was. Never again, Dell at home service rocks.
I called Dell about a line going down the middle of my screen and they were at my house the next day, new screen in hand. Great service.

Dell computers are all I used to set up the network at my old job. (It was about 12 Desktops, 4 Laptops). No problems, and that was back in '04.

Don't buy a BMW (335 that is).
The fuel pumps die, and it taked the service weeks to do anything about it...

I'm bought a Dell Desktop and it's very reliable. I love that it can be ordered customized with software you want, unlike HP, which comes bundled with trial spamware that you have to uninstall.

FYI, IBM doesn't make Laptops anymore and haven't for 2 years. They sold the division to Lenovo.

Apples, Lenovo T series, and the HP/Compaq NX,NC,NW line are the best laptops money buys. The Dell computers are such bullshit. They are horrible in an enterprise enviornment, they never use the same parts to build the exact same spec machines.

FYI, Dell, Fujitsu and Toshiba and Sony are all built by Quanta anyway in the same factory...

Dell computers used to be rock solid, but now they are obsessed with cutting costs and this has taken a toll on quality.

My question would be, what programs are you running? I mean, if you're playing a hi-res video game, a couple windows open in the back running, internet open...yep, you''re going to have heating issues...the computer is going to turn off. I don't have a dell, but my laptop was geared to run video games more than anything...it gets hot, and at times will turn off. Reboot.

2 of my friends using dell laptop, when the computer gets hot, the system will die. they always have to put the floor fan next to it to cool it down.
