"I Tried" By Bone Thugs 'n Harmony
Take a look at this first:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG5ReXP0SSg Let's take a minute to step back and analyze the situation here. Cops pull up and find a guy with a bag of money and he runs. Logic would tell you to run after him. The officers then brought him back and asked the owner if this was the man who robbed his store and the video makes it out to be that the owner acts as if the officers wrongfully accuse the man in question on purpose. He is then immediately set free, followed by the man in question giving a demeaning glare towards the officers. Please tell me where there is black injustice in this video? If anything, this sympathizes with the officers who have to deal with this half-assed so-called-racism because someone thinks they can pull the race card to get out of something. Is the message of the video supposed to be that irregardless of guilt someone shouldn't be arrested if they're not white? We have a thing called habeas corpus. Within the legal system is where the true judgment is given. I'm not saying racism doesn't exist, but this is wrongful accusation of the officers in this video, not the black man. The funniest thing to me is that the video shows a black man robbing the store anyway! Way to perpetuate the stereotype that black people are thiefs. But what do you expect from someone, like Akon, with no education? Akon is an ex-convict, ex-drug dealer, and a polygamist! He spent 5 years in prison, for what I don't know. He owns a diamond mind in South Africa and denies the existence of blood diamonds. Then he goes on to womanize and drive an orange Lambo.

I agree, I don't think the fact that the robber was a black man changes anything, it's just that the man runs for no apparent reason.
But, honestly, with a guy lke Akon producing this 'less-than-stellar' kind of crap, who cares? Like you said, if it wasn't for the rap game, he would have no future. Sometimes I get angry how these low-lives can produce something that takes less than single digit IQ to make, and be more successful than a man who has worked his entire life, pursuing something that is VALUABLE to society, like a firefighter, EMT, etc..makes me sick. |

ditto. I usually try to stay out of such discussions on the net, but I'm going to make a comment that I'll probably regret. I've noticed on several forums lately that there seems to be much more anger and sensitivity from non-blacks about blacks 'playing the race card' or wanting some sort of special treatment than there is actual b_tching and moaning from blacks about discrimination. From my perspective, for all of the black people that are hypersensitive about the plight of black folks in America or who are unwilling to accept responsibility for their own problems, there are just as many people who are unwilling to even consider the reasons that so many black people continue to have the troubles that they are having today. When I say 'reasons', I do not imply that these reasons are excuses for bad behavior. Until both sides are willing to actually hear each other, there will be no progress on this issue. All of this being said, it is our (black people's) responsibility to uplift ourselves and live law-abiding, productive lives, regardless of our upbringing or environment. I think the video is being overanalyzed--it isn't seeking anyone's pity, it's just a social commentary.

There was a more recent case of a legal US citizen, Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri, who had to go through the US circuit of appeals to get set free after being illegally detained (after the bill had passed). He's been in prison in South Carolina for about 4 years. Here's his story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_Saleh_Kahlah_al-Marri And I wasn't looking too deep into the video because I saw the interview on MTV (unfortunately) after the video played with the guys and they were talking about black injustice in society and all that crap. It's not that I don't believe racism exists or something. I've seen it happen in front of my own eyes and it makes me very uneasy, but in this particular circumstance in this music video just makes me want to slap those idiots.

hahaha, as everyone said, your looking way too deep into the video. You are just as pathetic as the point your trying to make.
The song is about being at the wrong place at the wrong time, not being able to get away from misery, living in an area where trouble always seems to find you........this video/song has nothing to do with injustice. Obviously if you listened to the lyrics and actually tried to understand the message you wouldn't have created this thread. And just to help you....here are the lyrics: I tried so hard, can't seem to get away from misery, Man I tried so hard, but always be a victim of these streets, It Ain't my fault cause I, try to get away but trouble follows me, And still I try so hard, hopin one day they'll come and rescue me, But until then, I'll be posted up right here rain, sleet, hail, snow (hail snow) But until then, I'll be posted up right here with my heat gettin dough (gettin' dough) [verse 1] First, let me explain that I'm just a black man, And I come from the darkside, so I'm havin a hard time stayin on track man, My mind be racin', and I don't even know what I'm chasin yet Been in and out of relationships, I'm startin to see that it's me where the complications at But I'm layin back, prayin' that, you get that piece of mind of me I thought I was right, but really I'm wrong, but again I was too blind to see, I was in the fast lane chasin my dream, And then it seemed when the fame and cash came, they just got me, Goin crazyyyy, (lately, lately) lately I been so faded trying to erase it, But I just can't cause the drama just grows greater, And I been in so many collisions by puttin shit off till later. [Chorus] I tried so hard, can't seem to get away from misery, Man I tried so hard, but always be a victim of these streets, It Ain't my fault cause I, try to get away but trouble follows me, And still I try so hard, hopin one day they'll come and rescue me, But until then, I'll be posted up right here rain, sleet, hail, snow (hail snow) But until then, I'll be posted up right here with my heat gettin dough (gettin' dough) [verse 2] [ I Tried lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ] It's like I'm takin five steps forward, and ten steps back Tryna get ahead of the game but I can't seem to get it on track And I keep runnin away the ones that say they love me the most How could I create the distance when it's supposed to be close? And uh, I just don't know but I be out here fightin demons and It's like the curse that I can't shake this part of Cleveland and Lord, would you help me? And stop this pain I keep inflinctin on my family (family) Hustlin and gamblin, drinkin' and scramblin' And losin sight of what I supposed to be handlin' It's hard to manage cause every days a challenge and man And I'm slippin can't lose my balance and tryin not to panic [Chorus] I tried so hard, can't seem to get away from misery, Man I tried so hard, but always be a victim of these streets, It Ain't my fault cause I, try to get away but trouble follows me, And still I try so hard, hopin one day they'll come and rescue me, But until then, I'll be posted up right here rain, sleet, hail, snow (hail snow) But until then, I'll be posted up right here with my heat gettin dough (gettin' dough) [verse 3] I see thangs won't change (wont change) I'm stuck in the game As soon as I get out it keeps pullin me back man (pullin me back man) Got me doin' dirty dirt, so used to this hustlin money, That I don't understand no nine to five work Studied on the streets, hustlas know what I mean Thugstas ballin' before us I'm tryna make that major league So we never leave never till the sun came up (came up) Gotta get it nope, no leavin, no grudge (no grudge) today games they play gotta go hard to get what you put in, if you fall off then its all on you (on you) gotta watch what you sign too, try so hard but I won't act a fool. [Chorus] I tried so hard, can't seem to get away from misery, Man I tried so hard, but always be a victim of these streets, It Ain't my fault cause I, try to get away but trouble follows me, And still I try so hard, hopin one day they'll come and rescue me, But until then, I'll be posted up right here rain, sleet, hail, snow (hail snow) But until then, I'll be posted up right here with my heat gettin dough (gettin' dough) |
