Anxiety
Just curious who else on here if anyone suffers from anxiety. Im not talking about you get the jitters but actual anxiety to the point of panic attacks.
I personally do and i will admit it does suck but i have learned to cope with it and find my own ways beyond medicine to overcome it even though at times it gets to the point where i cant control it. |

I have pretty bad anxiety. Unfortunately I haven't really found anything other than benzodiazepines that work for me, I can't remember shit when I take them though, so I usually don't. I'm interested to hear how you deal with it?

If you haven't already, research MCBT. It seems to be a case of "psychology discovers the advantages of Buddhist meditation". IIRC, studies indicate that it does actually "rewire" the brain to be happier and have less anxiety. I had some considerable anxiety after quitting smoking and found that this does help with stress. Here's a quick article on it: http://news.stanford.edu/news/2009/j...te-060309.html Good luck OP! |

The previos post was an attempt at humor, however I did struggle with anxiety in the past as well, and I seemed to simply outgrow it, I used to take bars if I had an attack though, but honestly I wouldn't recommend them unless absolutely essential.

I used to get it pretty bad. I would freak out in crowds or stressfull situations at work and feel like I am about to pass out. Never did but always felt on the brink. I took Lexapro for about 2 1/2 years and it worked like a charm. Weened off of it about three years ago and have been pretty good since. I get an occasional attack but not nearly as bad as it used to be.

I've never tried meditation, though I believe it would help as I know focusing on my breathing helps when I'm having an attack. It's just not easy to remember to focus on my breathing when it happens. |

Is anxiety anything like PTSD? I also get extremely nervous in crowds, or with strange people close to me. It used to be even worse. Its mellow now, until I hear a backfire or a gunshot, sudden loud noises will make me shit a brick. But other than that, I've talked to countless Army shrinks but the only thing that really helped was time, and spending alot of time with friends outside of my unit. Medication tends to exacerbate things, I've found personally.

I've actually read parts of this book, I put it down though and never got through it. Felt like it was common sense and was more of a motivation/confidence booster sort of thing, but then again I never gave it much of a chance.

I used to have pretty strong cases of Panic attackes, anxiety, leading into depression, almost.
What helped me is Meditation and Tapping. Luckily, a very experienced Tappist had an office not far from my house. Then, I took it from there. Occassionally, things come back, but not as bad as they used to be. |

Prayer helps. Just accepting that we can't control everything and putting our life and circumstances in Gods hands.
Also, Daily exercise helps with it. Specifically intense 30-45 minutes of intense cardio vascular exercise. Hope this helps. |

I was pretty anxious in my one-sided relationship (she lived a life of leisure, I had to do and worry about everything). Considered divorce and got super-anxious. Got separated and anxiety was dramatically reduced- felt more control and opportunity in my life. In the mean time, when things get tough dealing with the divorce, an occasional attivan works wonders. I'm as relaxed as I am after a couple drinks, except I'm not drunk, of course. Totally aware, coordinated and sharp, although a bit unfiltered. Intense exercise gives me the same effect, but I can't be working out all the time. Last edited by carve; 09-09-2012 at 02:51 PM.. |

Sorry i havent been able to post on this. Ive been super busy with work.
Certain situations call for certain ways of dealing with it. Most of the time it is when i am really tired or have to do things i dont want to do. If i have things planned that im really dreading i try to stay postitive but in the situation i get anxious. If im at work and it comes on i just keep myself busy. I find anything to keep my mind occupied such as cleaning and so on. As bad as it sounds a lot of the time, if the oppurtunity is there, I grab a beer. Majority of the time mine is brought on by, I KNOW THIS IS WIERD AS HELL, fear of vomiting. I dont know why but for some reason i have a fear of it and turns out im not as weird as i seem because many people have the same fear. |

I have anxiety, I can tell you its ruined my life. Haven't ever had a job, dropped out of school, don't have any money, and nobody really understands me. You must have a support system and try to find out what the root cause of the anxiety is in your life. What you focus on is how you feel many times. A lot of us focus on our anxiety to the point where we feel terribly inadequate and to a point, weak. You must find ways that you feel you can control your life. I would try natural remedies such as St. John's Wort and Valerian root in liquid form, some exercise, good nutrition, and having daily routines.

I too have been having a drink/night recently. Not to the point where I get trashed, but enough to soothe me. My boyfriend called me an alcoholic.

Anxiety fucking sucks. I have gone through it a few times in my life and it can be debilitating. First round was during college and the second round was right before buying my house a few months ago.
