Computer Question
At my highschool laptops are required from 6th grade up. Im going to be a senior this coming year and my current apple just wont cut it. I have to restart it 3 times a day to get word and aim working at the same time:mad:
I convinced the parents to get me a computer for this year, being that i have multiple ap classes and cant get away with pen and paper like i did last year. I decided to get a lower model computer this year to save him some money and then next year get one that will last 2-3 years for college. I thought i had it all chosen up til yesterday. I was going to get a mac book (black) refurbished from apple for 1299. like 600 dollars off. Yesterday my father and i were in Circuit City looking at a digital camera for my mother when I saw a neat little computer. Its a Hp Tx1000z series. Its small 12.1" widescreen with touchscreen. Its also a tablet. The one from circuit city was amd dual core 2.0 2048 ram and 160 gb HD with windows vista. Id have to upgrade to buisness for school but thats not a problem. All in al it seems like a good computer and for the price im beginning to like it ALOT. It comes with a webcam +mic + fingerprint scanner. The price is 1000. Ive fallen in love with macs but its just easier for school to use a PC. I think im leaning towards the HP because its cheaper and its a tablet, which I think will come in handy...anyone wanna chime in and gimme some advice on which one to chose from?

I like the AMD dual core processors, they're great, but it's downfall is that it has Vista.
2 gigs of ram on a Vista Laptop is gonna feel like 512mb of ram on a window's XP system. |

HP's are cheaply made in my opinion. I had 3 laptops and they were in for repair more than i got to use them. I will never buy another hp product again. The only decent PC i've owned is a dell. Find two friends, one with a dell desktop and one with a HP and open them both up. Notice how nice one is put togeather and the other looks all tangled and shitty. IMO go with an apple. This is my first mbp 17" gen 2 and i love it. I get no viruses and everything works fine.

Imagine how ironic it would be if you bought that brand new Vista tablet and found yourself doing exactly the same thing ;-) I would be seriously impressed if you manage a real need for a laptop more powerfull than the blackbook in college. Besides, all your classmates will make fun of you if you run vista. |

If you can get an Apple I would say get it. My girlfriend just got a Macbook. Only $1000. Runs pretty much smoothly easy to use and since your use to macs.
Second if not a mac I would say Dell or something like that. Also Vista is fine I use it on my current computer.

The macbook (black) is my first choice but its 1448 with student discount new and they are releasing the new OS in october which is another 200 dollars, not to mention the rumors of a revamped lineup (thinner) by september. All around I LOVE macs but am thinking wait a year get the HP and buy the new OS for my current mac, and have two good computers and then get a new laptop apple for college?

Go with the HP... The tablet portion would be great for taking notes with plus its small size makes it easy to take with you. I have yet to have a problem with Vista maybe if you have some older programs that you have to run otherwise I think its great.

Ya the only real program I have for windows is pokerstars lol Ive been dying without it. But i was thinking about the same thing for notes. I type very fast though so it wouldnt be a problem but I think for Highschool I still want a small lightweight/ yet semi decent computer. Ill post pics when i get back from israel. Should have it by august 18th

dude if i were you i wuold get the macbook. NOTHING is wrong with the refurbished once. I was on the macforum and everyone agree's that there refurbished are great, and i haven't heard till today of anyone having problems with their mac refurbished computer.
My girlfriend got a macbook (black) refurbished and it looked brand new, and has never gave her a problem till date. It runs fast, smoothly and no problems at all.. I recommended it to her, so then i messed up my ipod and got one refurbished. It works great. With HP, i never really liked HP. YOu get a HP, and Vista... ohhh man!... I personnaly don't like vista. I've played around with it, but i'm happy i got my imac. In college you shouldn't need more that the macbook. YOu install your office for students, you're good to go. My girlfriend used her for college and it's great. No freezing, rebooting, crashing or anything. Yes Mac is comming out with there new Os. I'm going to be at the store to get it asap. I've read and seen it's awsome! But in the meanwhile you will just end up spending more if you get a 1000 computer and then in 1 year a macbook 1,200+.... Just go all out and get the macbook now. make sure it has intel 2 duo and at least 1g or ram... if not, get the additional ram to equal 1g... i believe that will make the computer run great! Good luck.

The only problem with the refurb is its 1299. I can get a NEW macbook (black) same speced for 1488 using the school discount. I was going to save some money this year because I heard they were coming out with a 12" (widescreen) Macbook Pro. Im not sure yet i need to see how much i can spend at the moment.

hey man here is my advice. i never like macs personally but all you need is this.
Windows XP Pro (forget vista right now) 1gb of ram 120gb HD Intel/AMD Uninstall all the bs program that company installed or just give it a quick reformat. f-secure 07 office 2003 or 07 AIM and your good. will run AMAZINGLY fast for a laptop no bugs, etc. |

No, ~US$130 retail or US$70 Education. Plus usually that close to a release you get a voucher with your Mac to get the new version free. |

I have an HP I bought 18 months ago and the build quality is crap. Compared to my daughter's macbook and son's MB pro it is junk. It will probably be the last windows based machine I own.

My BMW makes my old Jetta look like crap. But then again my Jetta cost a hell of a lot less. Don't get me wrong if you can get a Mac get one. But people do not realize if you purchase a good spec'd computer and know the proper settings and such. A windows computer can run flawlessy. Running Vista right now on my custom desktop. No crashes at all and I don't shut off my comp.

macbook PRO???? Ok that's another category... macbook pro cost more than macbooks. In either case, you're going to need this for aim, and word.... why the macbook PRO????? Hey i'm just asking. I always like to have more just incase, but if i was in college and use the computer for chatting/internet surfing/emailing/word documents/pictures & movie watchin.... Macbook will do that and MORE!.. I just think macbook it bigtime... i don't now dude it's your call.
