Picked a new commuter

I wanted to keep the miles off of my M, both for the gas mileage and the inevitable services it would need. I love that car to death and I don't want it in the shop. So today I picked up a 1992 civic cx, this tiny 1.5l only makes 70hp but gets up to 55 mpg!! Anyone else doing this?

I always said this to my friends. If I ever get an M3 one day that is exactly what I would do.

Sounds like the people that put plastic covers on their very luxurious leather sofa. You got a nice car so you can enjoy it, why are you spending your time in a tin box ???!

I can totally understand having a commuter and a track/fun car, as many fun cars are poor at creature comfort. That is not the case of the M3.

Devaluation is the biggest hit you take on a car like that, not gas and maintenance, so even financially, ownership makes no sense if you never use it, as not using it bumps the per-mile (per hour of enjoyment; the only metric that matters) price to horrible heights.

Your car, your life, but hey, you asked

Understand where youre coming from, but I thoroughly enjoy the m3. So much to the point thats why i got the civic. I already park as far away from everyone i can, and I hate parking M at work as my co-workers are oblivious to others property. I know this from my last car.

But the M3 im averaging 16 mpg, with this I can average 55mpg, thats almost four times more efficient. Call me crazy but sitting in traffic in a boring commute, I cant really enjoy the M. This gives me piece of mind to say the least.

With a situation like that, I wuold have bought an Accord or something like that, to retain minimal amount of creature comfort. I know that the most boring commute is greatly improved by listening to Radiohead with the Logic-7 amp in leather seats.

This civic actually has leather seats, comfortable ones too. Nothing like the M though. All it needs is tint, and a deck. I don't need an amp or sub.

I have a 135i.. No M but I don't like putting too many miles on mine either. My commute is about 60-80 miles a day for 5 days. 3 out of 5 days I take my 2001 Honda accord and 2 days my 35'. So I see where you're coming from!

I have my 2012 328i Msport coupe. I love driving it and I am on the fence about garaging it and splitting my commute with my truck. I've put 6000 miles in 2 months. Like I said I love driving it.

I did the same thing and bought a 100k mile b6 A4 for relatively cheap. I needed a pretty decent level of creature comfort to keep me sane. Like you, I didn't enjoy the m enough sitting in rush hour traffic.

I have a fully built k24 sitting in the garage, but I'm trying to sell it. I don't think the M would be able to keep up if I did that

I couldn't stand the rush hour and consistently trapped on highway for hours either, but my solution was to sell the house and moved to a smaller town. Traffic is really annoying. Those civic are rock solid. Enjoy!

But seriously, I can understand getting a DD to keep the miles down on the M. Enjoy!

I bought myself a 97 4Runner with 157k miles for $3000 in December. I take it out when I need to go grocery shopping or when I need to haul things around. it's a perfect compliment to my M3 and my E30 vert.

Really easy to work on too which is a plus.
