New CL (S) Coupe spied

http://www.autoblog.com/2013/02/19/n.../#aol-comments

Don't know about you all, but it is very evident what this car is aiming for. The C216 body style did not have any direct competitors, but this new one looks smaller, wider and longer than the C216. I think its trying to compete directly with the 6 series and the XK (the new one reportedly will grow bigger and go more upmarket). I for one like what this looks like. Hopefully it will shed a lot of weight to be properly fast especially in the '65 AMG form

The S-coupe or CL always looked good. And about it trying to compete with a 6 series is a joke. If anything, BMW is trying to compete with MB with the big coupes and coupe like cars.

Yeah, the CL has always been above anything from BMW. It is just a different class and luxury level. It is basically Bentley Continental GT competition, well at least the V12 CL.

I think what I am trying to say is being misinterpreted. What I meant was, that the lower, slick silhouette is more akin to that of the DB9, 6 series, XK and a departure from the more bulbous current gen CL, Continental etc. Don't get me wrong, the CLs have always been a very understated and confident design that reeks class, but this visibly smaller glass house does resemble more sporty intentions.

According to Autoblog, they are doing away with the CL moniker, it will be an S class coupe, similar to what they did with the E class and the CLK

BMW needs a 8 series with the V12 from the 760i to compete with this.

I like the look, definitely looks to compete directly with the 6 series.

But, there will be a huge price difference between the two cars. 650i starts at ~$86k while the CL550 starts at $115,000(which is even MORE than the starting price of an M6 coupe!!).
(And I doubt they are going to lower the price for this new model).

Agreed. Especially the 63 and 65 AMG models
Maybe more of a true Jag XK competitor, or even the R8?
