First Standard Car Suggestions
So I'm looking to pick up my first standard car. I'm currently driving an 08 Z4 roadster and have an 06 330 as a family car. I'll be trading in my Z4 and have a total budget of about 25k. Cars Im considering include: 08 bmw 135, 2011 mustang gt, and 2011 dodge challenger. My only concern is that none of these cars seem to be good for learning to drive stick with. Do you guys think it would be better for me to pick up something like a civic si or an accord first to learn with our jump straight into something with a bit more power? Any other suggestion for cars in the 25k range that would be fun in stick?

I have learned stick on a mustang cobra and despite all of the horse power it is nice and forgiving. The new mustangs have fantastic manual transmissions that are easy to learn stick on. The mustang gt would be a great car for learning stick. I'm not sure about the challenger though, I haven't had much experience with one. Finally I think the BMW would be great as well. They also have a nice smooth and easy to learn manual transmission. Which ever way you choose congratulations and post some pics when you get it!

One of the Toyobaru twins, the VW GTI, and the Civic SI are all extremely easy to learn on. Their clutches are light with a large engagement zone. The Mustang (5.0) would be a little more difficult to use only because its engagement zone is smaller and higher up, but none of these are hard to start on in the grand scheme of things. Modern stick shifts are stupidly easy and near fool proof to use after maybe 15 mins to a half hour of use.

Buy the car you really want. With practice you can learn to drive it with a stick just take it one step at a time. |
