Moving to New Orleans
I'm from Ft. Lauderdale and have a job opportunity in NOLA.
I would appreciate any help on where to live and what to expect. I'm looking for a place in the Jefferson / Metaire area. Thanks

Oh please....
New Orleans is a great city to live in. I worked for 4 years at New Orleans EMS, all of the crime was black on black stupidity and they always stayed on their "turf." You don't have to worry about crime unless you are dealing/buying drugs. Jefferson/Metairie is nice, there is some blah areas in the older neighborhoods. If you really want the most for your money buy/rent in Mandeville. The drive across the lake is great and the clientele is much nicer. If you are wanting to rent in NO, look at the American Can Company, great apartments, but you will pay a high rent to live in the city. New Orleans is about 80-90% back post- Katrina, areas that are still not rebuilt aren't places you would hang anyway or even see unless you drive way off the beaten path. Check out NOLA Motorsports as well, it will at completion be the longest road track in North America, always something awesome going on there. Let me know if you need anything, you will have a blast here. |

Rents are high in N.O. as Derek points out and the Northshore (Mandeville) is nice and the drive is not bad but can be a pain, IMO. One area which is nice is River Ridge (Jefferson Parish). They have nice apartment complexes and it has easy access into N.O. Contrary to MP0WER's quip, Metairie and Kenner are just as low as N.O.!

Thanks for the feedback. In fact, I'm currently looking in Old Jefferson to either rent a house or apartment. The only problem I have is that I need a garage, I have 2 motorcycles and 2 bicycles.
