Hi folks here, as I posted one thread several weeks ago I am planning to trade in my 2012 x6 3.5i to the MB ML63 AMG. I have done the test drive of it, everything looks amazing and I am pretty satisfy of it. However, lots of online sources show the reliability of it is horrible. Therefore, I was not sure to put down my order or not. When I went to test drove the ML63, I also saw one Porsche cayenne GTS in the porsche dealer and was impressed by its beauty. Can you guys help me to choose between these two based on the reliability and daily drive comfort performance issues. Any opinion will be kindly accepted. Thanks a lot. I am appreciate.

The Cayenne GTS depreciates like a total %*%# from what I've seen.

Both cars depreciate like crazy. I don't think either will be as reliable as a Lexus but that's not to say that either would be UNreliable.

The Lexus won't offer the fun though): The smart choice isn't necessarily the right one when it comes to cars. I'd say go for the AMG.

Both good choices. Depends on which you like better. Reliability isn't much to be discussed when you look to purchasing one of those performance SUVs. You know some problem will encounter and that's what the 4 year warranty is there for.

ML 63 of course. The porsche is a very nice ride as well. I would prefer to own a car from them though...

Yep, this is the reason I can not make my decision. I saw you drive M5, actually I also considered M5 for the DD duty, but RD definitely is not a smart choice for Ontario winter. Therefore, I am looking at those two. Ml is very nice, the only way Porsche is better is the brand name and reliability according to the online sources. Moreover, a well equipped GTS is around 20k out of my budget.

Comfort Performance is an oxymoron. You either get one or the other, and if you want both, you compromise.

The ML63 will be more comfortable. Smoother ride, and more quite (until you unleash that hand-built AMG V8 ) However, you do lose some cornering and hard turn-in ability (Mercedes are known for that). I don't have the actual numbers, but I bet the AMG will do a faster 0-60 if that is the kind of performance you are looking for, but I could be wrong.

In terms of the Cayenne... It is an SUV, and it's big, but wow does it handle! It won't beat a dedicated sports car or even a sports sedan, but for such a high vehicle, it's cornering and turning performance is spectacular. As a result, you will lose some ride comfort and possibly some more road noise as well. So you have to choose, do you prefer straight line performance and a hand-built AMG, or a SUV you can bring to the track

In terms of looks though, I don't know... It may be buyer's remorse but I am still not convinced with the new Cayenne. I have the 2nd Gen, and I think it really gives the car the fierceness and road presence it needs. The newest Cayenne is so rounded, feminine in a way (think Audi TT) in design, looks smaller and just doesn't have that road presence that should be in a Porsche (especially a GTS for that matter).

Sorry, if I had to make that decision I would be too!

When considering reliability, remember that Porsches warranty rarely covers anything that actually breaks down. A Mercedes warranty is much better. You'll be paying less out of your pocket!

Thanks but I heard porsche covers engine and transmission up to 160000 km. Is it true?

Most of us live in US. Warranty is probably different from Canada.

no it's not true. the porsche factory warranty is 4yr/80000km on both engine and transmission. you may be able to purchase factory extend warranty to cover you up to 6yr/120000km, but anything beyond that you might need to look for 3rd party extend warranty providers.

However, is it true that the reliability of the Cayenne really better than the ML, I don't know and I doubt that. SUV isn't for me, but if I was to make a choice in this case, I would go with the ML63AMG. If it's a porsche, I will reserve the spot for another 911. Just my opinions though. Thanks a lot. Yep, I know the truth 911 is the real Porsche and the really nice sports car. I heard the reliability of ml has been improved since 2010. Is it true?

It's impossible to tell how reliable a brand new car will be as reliability is achieved over an extended period of time. As that time has yet to lapse, it's an impossible question to answer. Range Rover, for example, has been saying that each new model is "much more reliable" than the previous for a decade and my friend with a 2011 still has silly issues. The cars are both new so I don't think either will leave you stranded, if that's the concern. Between these two cars I would just go with the model you prefer as they are probably equally reliable.

Some dealers are marking down Cayennes .
More so on the turbo and not many GTS'. Advertised that is.

There is a white GTS at Porche of Nashville showing an MSRP of around 99k and a sale price of 93k.
