Why is it that others assume a BMW Owner is....

Guess what?

A little birdie told me that they're mostly a bunch of middle aged mid life crisis bunch of old farts who want to live the life of a college kid again, so they go out and purchase cars to make up for their penis sizes and short comings on their years in college where they've met their home maker wives..

True story?

Fuck everyone's opinions. Drive what you wanna drive because it makes you happy. I'd just blow off whoever's saying that shit to you.

As long as one doesn't flaunt around the fact that they own a BMW (no matter how it was obtained - gift from parents or earned with own cash - doesn't matter) I don't think anyone deserves that. Just ignore the haters.

Oh yeah, I forgot to answer the title question lol.

I think the reason that people hate a lot of BMW owners in general is b/c I think it's a really common sport/lux car for the younger crowd. I see more "reckless" (not the best word I can think of) young drivers with BMWs than those with Benzes or whatever.

There's so many 3 series on the road around here that nobody thinks anything of it. It's nothing special.
Sure, you get the occasional dickhead, who acts like a moron around any car that looks more expensive than his (but doesn't even know the difference between a BMW and a Merc and certainly can't tell the difference between a 320d and an M3)

You know what I think? You go around driving the car like you got something shoved up your ass because you realize you are going to be making car payments for a long time and it wasn't even exactly what you wanted. Yes, the ZSP does make that big of a difference, especially on the sedan.

I see you made it a point to say your parents didn't buy you the car. Which comes off sounding like you are still living at home and/or you have not cut financial ties with them yet. They bought you the e36 M3 correct? Or was it your dad's hand-me-down?
Jealous that someone is driving a BMW at a younger age than you??

It depends on the car itself...Its seems as if the car is hooked up meaning modified with exterior mod people respect the car more...Obviously a modified car rims, body kit, suspension work will make a car look soooo much different that a stock car...

Unfortunately, the "arrogant prick" assumption is frequently true. There are a lot of people who buy BMW's more for perceived status as opposed to the driving experience.

I know people who bought BMW's without ever having driven one, simply because "it's a BMW". Afterwards, they complain about how it rides too rough, etc. You would be amazed how many people simply want to show off the badge. These people would likely be arrogant pricks even if they were driving a KIA.

Then there are the driving enthusiasts who drive BMW's. I used to always wonder why people in BMW's seemed to drive so fast and/or aggressively. Then I bought one. This car gives a whole new definition to "regular driving". I think my overall pace has definitely gotten quicker, especially in the curves. When a "racer" sees someone else on the road driving a bit faster than the usual commuter car, they see it as a challenge. These are the instances when I find a car with a small engine and an overly loud muffler in the next lane leaving the traffic signal with wheels spinning, while I am just minding my own business.

mainly because every day more and more retards are finding their way to the BMW brand. The entry point for BMW's is at a level where it's not a special car to own, but too many people act like it's something to be genuflected in front of.

If an outsider was to base their opinion of BMW owners based solely on this forum, they would think that most owners are spoiled jerks who think the world exists mainly to keep them happy and that everyone owes them something. Answers like "fuck them and their opinions" just help cement that perception. Like it or not, since the 335 hit the market, this forum has started to look more and more like an upper-middle class ricer hangout. Look at what you write people, is this the way you articulate to your family, boss, friends, teachers, the rest of the general public?? If so, no wonder people think the way they do about owners.

If people want to start changing a negative perception, then they need to start acting like people who have earned and deserve a better one. Until that starts, just get used to being called an arrogant prick because BMW owners have worked for many years to bring it on themselves and too many of the new generation are just making it worse.

WHY??? Cause so many BMW owners are arrogant, self involved pricks.... No mystery.

Remember that most Stereotypes have some foundation in reality, or at least a foundation based on perceived reality.

You realize that I'm aiming this at the ignorant people who just assume that BMW owners are reckless and arrogant, right?
