Got a call from 911

This morning while at work, I got a call from with caller as "911". Upon answering, the guy asked for my name and said there is a charge against me for arrest.

Federal agent is looking for me and he gave a number to call back. Upon asking what the guy's name is he said some Sheriff Williams from Kings County in Brooklyn. He gave a badge number and address in Brooklyn. All this time, he didn't talk like a cop. He just sounded like some school kid. I asked him, how he got my info and he said my name & an address(that I have never lived before). I thought it could be a mistaken identity but then again why would they call me? I knew it was a way to skim personal info and just said "Come arrest me if you want to and stop wasting my time". And hung up.

Anyone with similar experiences?

I wouldn't worry about it seriously though. They will come looking for you in person if what he said is true.

I believe there is an app that allows you to change your appearing number on the opposite end. I had a buddy continuously try to call me from different numbers using it. Probably some kid trying to mess with you.

actually reminds me of this movie i saw a few months ago. This 40ish year old guy gets a kick out of prank calling fast food restaurants pretending to be a cop. Makes the manager and her Fiance strip search her employee. Just googled the name of the movie, its called Compliance.

Haven't seen the movie but you can read about the real incident it was based off of. There's security footage floating around of it happening. People sometimes go brain dead when they talk to authority figures (Parents, priests, police, etc.)

No one will ever call you from "911". It would either have be a legit number or, at the very least, a blocked number.

I usually take calls in a conference room, so no worries there.

Yup. I showed my colleague next to me while the phone was ringing and he was like "Huh, it's a scam!".

It is a new scam it has been highlighted in my local paper, they attempt to get you to paid some out standing ticket or they will claim to show up at your house. It sounds like some people have fallen for it recently.

sounds like a scam. I would think the city would send out some paperwork or straight up just come to your door requesting to speak with you.
