BMW CS Vintage Concept by David Obendorfer
![]() BMW CS Vintage Concept by David Obendorfer The project by car designer David Obendorfer is a modern interpretation of the 1968 BMW E9 series designed by Giovanni Michelotti. It focuses on two models: Michelotti's E9 and its predecessor, the 1965 BMW 2000 CS (E120 series). The BMW CS vintage concept is based on the 6 series platform; the style, despite numerous citations from the past, is substantially contemporaneous with updated proportions and with modern details, many of which are influenced by nautical styling solutions. I can't make up my mind about this car. I kind of like it, but I think the height of the belt line (and therefore the height of the trunk and hood) make it look un-proportional.
I don't care for the interior at all. I think that while the designer put in many of the E9's features into the interior, they failed to replicate its overall essence. |

This is a great idea and has a lot of potential. I totally agree with bimmerjph that the belt line is too high. My biggest criticism is that the facia needs the grill like the '70's cars. This has way too much "body" on the face, almost like a rear engine car (Karman Ghia, Corvair). It makes it look tall and blunt as opposed to wide and low like the original. The CS is my favorite vintage BMW and I'd love to see a modern interpretation of one. This is a good start but needs some tweaking.

It looks like someone put a gimp mask on a BMW... other than the awkward blank space the old sized kidneys make in the front, its pretty cool

I like it. Lots of potential for sure. Some tweaking here and there and could look amazing.

Like it, but this concept to me shows just how drop dead gorgeous the E9 is. Maybe there's a 'batmobile' version of the concept coming soon??

Can't decide: Either needs a lower belt line... or a taller greenhouse.
As it stands: looks like a current generation Dodge Challenger with kidney grills and roundels. I really wanted to love this, but... |
