Corvette z06 vs BMW M6
I have 35k should I buy Corvette c6 Z06 or BMW M6.
I know I dont have 113K for new M6 but 2007 or 2008 will do just fine or 100k for new z06. I like to hear input form someone who owns or use to own this cars. Thanks ![]() |

Haven't owned either, so feel free to disregard.
Corvette? Seriously? It's been done. The roads are full of them. You'd just look like another mid-life crisis. The M6 is a rare and exotic beast, in a class and with the class of Aston and Maserati.

My best guess would be, try before you buy! See if you can get a drive in each of them and see which you like better. After all, it's going to be your car, not ours

Id say be sure to get an '08 or later though as most of the kinks were worked out by then and there were some new features added. You'll need to have a warranty though in all cases, so factor that in. good luck.

Depends on what you want to do with the car. If a DD and you can get a warranty then the M6 would be excellent although a Z06 also is easily drivable daily. If you're planing on going to the track, then the Z06 is the car to choose. If you're worried about running costs and can't get a decent warranty, get the Z06.

If you want luxury sportscar, go M6. It's no secret that a Corvette is still a Chevrolet, but there's something about a naturally aspirated car begging you to throw it around. The M6 is a land barge in comparison. Also, the Z06 will absolutely annihilate the M6 in a lot of categories. Will you experience that on the street? Probably not - it's fun trying though. ![]() If this is a strictly street duty car, I'd probably opt for the M6. Any track time? Z06 all the way.

i love that V10 engine, i like the M5 more. but it would be hard for me to own a car like it. with miles and age on its side. parts are very expensive and getting rare. where the Z06 its a lot cheaper and more reliable to begin with. i would go Z06.

The V10 loves fuel, it loves oil, and it loves rear tires. As long as you have your eyes (and wallet) wide open get the M and enjoy, one of the last great BMW engines. If not, get the Vette, it will be cheaper to drive and maintain. |

But way to sound like the stereotypical douchebag BMW owner who oversells the brands perceived prestige and focusing on an image of a car instead of what actually matters to actual enthusiasts, how they drive. And of all the words to use to describe an M6...exotic would be amongst the bottom. As for the OP's question, depends on what you're looking for in a car. Even the way they deliver power is different. The M6 has an NA very high revving V10 (one of the best sounding engines BMW has ever made in a production car IMO) whereas the Z06 has the textbook and classic American V8. The M6 will have nicer bells and whistles whereas the Z06 will be more of a track focused car so keep that in mind. Z06's can have a very punishing ride and may be more difficult to live with day to day vs. the M6. On a track, with a decent to good driver, the Z06 will dance in circles around the M6...as well as an Aston and Maserati. Last edited by fecurtis; 04-02-2014 at 01:45 PM.. |

if its speed your looking for its not even in the same zipcode a zo6 will spank an M6 in all areas. My buddy has an 06 zo6 FBO things runs 11s all day. my brother got rid of his m6 last spring that v10 is got to be one of the nicest sounding motors ever built. fit and finish wise an M6 is head and shoulders above the vet. If this car is a daily go with the M6

The C6 Z06 will be faster and much cheaper to maintain (but get the valves checked on the heads to make sure they are within spec!). I've driven a couple that a friend owned and when pushed, the car handles like it is on rails and is really fast, even in stock form. Modded, there won't be much on the street that it couldn't beat, or at least hang with. Plus, it has a torquey 7.0L V8, weighs in at about 3200 lbs, and has the ability to fit pretty large tires on all four corners. It's definitely on my short list of cars to buy.
As for the M6, I've never driven one or ridden in one so I can't really speak to it. However, I can imagine it will cost a lot to maintain properly and, when something breaks, it will be expensive to repair. Performance wise, the car weighs in at about 4000 lbs and has less torque from the 5.0 L V10 (383 ft-lb @ 6100 RPM vs. over 400 ft-lb from 2400 to 6400 RPM). The interior will be nicer and you'll be able to fit more people (4 seater vs. 2 with the Z06).

The OP, in looking at an M6 and a Z06, most likely wants a driver oriented car so to him, it's likely irrelevant that a Z06 won't have the same "prestige" as an M6, besides he probably already knows that and doesn't care. IMO to discount a Corvette as a "mid life crisis car" and ignore the merits it does have is just ridiculous. Quote:

I think you took what I wrote and assumed I was trashing the M6, which I wasn't. Just realizing it for what it is, a damn good car that one could easily drive everyday around town but it's not in the same league as an Aston or Maserati. |

Exceptional drivers in above-average track conditions will run high-10s in a C6 Z06 with the one and only single modification being tires. |
