Road Trip NYC-ATL via the Appalachian.
Over Memorial Day weekend we will be flying up to NYC then driving back home to Atlanta. I'm currently working on the route. I'm not looking for the quickest route but more casual and scenic route, staying in little B&Bs or quaint hotels. Some fun roads to drive would be great.
From NYC I was thinking of visiting a friend in Pittsburgh the first night then heading to Richmond VA (visiting family), driving through the Monongahela and George Washington National Forests. Then heading back to the Appalachian for a slow drive home. But I'm not really sure what route to take, nor where to stop nor what points of interest to do/see. Any suggestions of what to do, whether it be a B&B or a restaurant, road that is a must to drive, waterfall/lake, some piece of architecture, a museum, shopping area. I'm really open to most anything.
