2015 CLS63 AMG (and Standard CLS) Revealed
Stunning, in my humble opinion.
Carbon Ceramic Brakes. Love that diffuser. And here is the new, standard CLS:

Very aggressive. I'm liking Mercedes design direction.

This is the first MB I can think of where I prefer the non-AMG treatment. The non-AMG facelift's face is a huge improvement, with balanced shapes and meticulous surfacing compared to the odd and unusually sized surface breaks of the outgoing one. But the outgoing AMG, even with its more "basic" styling, still nails that Boss-exec-axe-murderer look better than the new corporate AMG big-mouth-brace look. Even the lighting arrangement within the headunits looks the part, despite looking a little tacked-on by comparison.
The non-AMG just looks odd. I'm so glad that they're fixing this.

All I can say is that the new A-wing style front splitters/lips on the LCI W212 E63, W205 C63, S63 coupe, etc. look much better in person than they do in photographs.
They are also now the easiest way to identify an AMG from the standard car. All that said, I like my standard E550's styling just fine.

I just think it's a look that's better suited to something more three-box, like the E63. Something about the front air dam's shaping just didn't translate well to the heavily chamfered corners of the CLS. Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's Maybelline.

But as always, your aesthetic analysis was very thorough and insightful.

I think I know what it is now: they removed that surface break that used to run underneath the headlights and divide that portion of the bumper.
It's still retained for the non-AMG though. Lol thanks

the front end of the facelifted nonAMG is better than the AMG version.. but love that rear diffuser on the AMG.
I have yet to get used to the new design language of the next generation of MB's. |

This. The front end of the new AMGs looks too soft. Bring that edge back!

Photos really, really do not do them justice. Depending on your trim level, the entirety of the inside of the A-wing splitter can be lined with carbon fiber. Also, the side air dams are absolutely monstrous in person. They dwarf the standard car's air dams/intakes.

The problem isn't the size of the air dams, it's the shape of them. On the AMG, the top line goes straight across the front of the car while they tilt down as they near the center on the standard car, giving it a more menacing look.
