I’ve bought first and second year vehicles a LOT. It’s a mixed bag. Some things do get fixed in the second year, Some don’t get fixed until year 3 or 4. Reasons to wait would be if we’re right on the cusp of an LCI release - that is definitely a reason to wait. Thats what I did on my ‘25 G87 and I’m SO glad I did, for many reasons. I delayed my purchase a good 6-7mo because of it.
For the X3, right now, I don’t much see the point in waiting. I don’t see much changing in its 2nd year. I guess if you’re really close to the release of being able to order an MY26, then you might as well wait. The price will surely be higher and there might be another color option available.

Based on what BMW has recently been doing with the new gen x1 & 2’s waiting is NOT a good idea. In an attempt to save money they lean towards removing things rather than fix (physical) things with the revised models & have even removed them mud year model year production runs.
Case in point, since 2023 intro they took away;
1 Glove compartment light
2 Door sill covers
3 Storage compartments on back of front seats.
4 Dual use USB-C Ports (no longer have Data capabilities, they just charge)

What else could BMW possibly remove?!!! Turn signal stalk? Steering Wheel?

At what point does a car from a luxury brand no longer considered luxury?
Might as well get a Mazda, LOL!

Just so folks aren't confused, the X3 currently is not subject to the tariffs that went into affect.

Not so sure your comment about vehicles produced in SC with foreign parts are not subject to tariffs shortly.

Because they include many parts NOT made within the USA, they will be tariffed on the NON USA MADE PARTS soon. Probably will effect the components (parts) that begin to enter USA that are used to manufacture vehicles within the USA until/unless tariffs are ended.

A Car and Driver article from a day or two ago says the tariffs on imported parts used in production in U.S. plants will take effect May 5.

My comment is accurate, the current tariffs are for imported vehicles.

They are incorrect in their reporting, the tariffs on parts start on May 3rd. From 1098 and the Federal Register:

I see you fixed your typo about NOT for imported vehicles. But the tariffs will apply (whatever the effective date, if nothing changes) to imported parts, right? So while the entire vehicle won't be subject to tariffs, some parts will be (I'm thinking specifically of the X3 built in Spartanburg).

I don't have a Monroney in front of me for an X3, so I don't know the percentage.

Agreed, tariffs will be applied to every single product coming into the USA proportional to their cost & the finished goods they are in or being used to manufacture in the USA. There will be very few items (if any) made in the USA that are not subject to some degree of tariff because USA does not make every single component /raw materials used in manufacturing.

Yes, that "not" would have meant something totally different. LOL

The X3 will definitely be subject to the tariff once it starts on imported parts. The X5 is about 68% non US/Canada and would imagine the X3 is similar.

Actually the car is realy good without major issues. Drivetrain is in the 7 series for some time now and now issues.

So I don't regret getting a first year car.

If BMW is struggling to move the G45 X3 as is...adding a parts tariff on top of that will be the nail on the coffin.

Too many other nice alternatives to the new X3 at this time.

With the tarifs in full effect, BMW X3 sales will be your smalest problem.

BMW will pull X3 production for rest of the world over to South Africa and X4/5/6/7 demand will go down due to higher prices wich in the end will cost jobs in the USA.

Huge inflation on the US horizon......

Hans, I think you better start learning Russian soon. That's what's coming to Europe and we won't protect you this time.

Wouldn’t be so sure of that. I don’t understand it fully but the Spartanburg plant already has some kind of trade zone status which impacts the amount of import duties they pay on parts and also allows fully assembled vehicles to be exported, even to the extent cars destined for markets outside of North America carry German VIN’s.

So it’s possible the tariffs may only impact cars destined for the US market through tariffs on imported parts but for vehicles exported there may not be tariffs on the imported content. Guess time will tell.

IIRC there is already a 10% UK import tax on cars exported from the USA. There is a list of UK TARIC codes that breaks this down by various categories. I’m not sure if the UK view cars produced at Spartanburg as of Euro origin.

Beyond the tax, there’s also global sentiment at play with consumers looking more closely at where goods are produced or a brands association. Even if the brand is produced locally consumers are often voting with their wallet i.e Tesla.

Maybe BMW will provide non US consumers with complete G45 and even G05 model options from South Africa or elsewhere.

The UK does consider Spartanburg built cars as built in Europe. That’s kind of the point of the foreign trade zone the plant operates under. So no import tariff is paid.

That aside have no doubt the trump tariffs will have a wide effect on global car market and maybe not the way that he is hoping.

Like? I’ve driven just about all of them, and none compare to the way the X3 M50 drives.
