I parked my MY26 M50 next to a same-color 30 (unsure if it was MY 25 or MY26) and noticed that the M50's rear taillights were bisected by a dark color compared to the the 30's.

I remember in G01 days that folks would buy "blacked out" taillights and other lighting elements for the US-spec M40i from Euro models.

I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that what I think I saw is true -- that M50 taillights are (very subtly) different from the 30's.

Maybe the shadowline option makes them different?

M-Sports pro package has darker tail lights and adaptive headlights are also darker on the inside.

By “adaptive” are you referring to steering wheel angle linked positioning (“swiveling”)?

I thought that feature was removed from all US-spec G45s.

Some have noted a new service listed in cars with 11/2025.50 wondering if BMW is prepping to add (or sell in the store) a headlight feature.

When one could ODL code BMWs, it was possible to remove the “decoding” that disabled Euro split headlights in US-spec cars. Removing the “decoding” enabled split-beam headlights in cars that had the right hardware.

It makes sense from a cost perspective for BMW to use the same hardware in US cars as in export models but disable the non-FMVSS compliant functions in software.

I’ll bet there’s some “decoding” of headlight features in US cars and I’ll bet some US cars have hardware capable of advanced functionality. The US is and has been behind in permitting advanced headlight functionality.

But now that we really cannot know the exact features in our cars, only BMW knows what we have.

You can thank the US DOT.
