For ad-hoc charging, i.e., without a contract and paying by credit card, my current setup looks like this:

These possibilities are becoming increasingly common.

OHV_44 wroteIs that for drop in with a Credit Card?Current German prices for DC charging at HPC:
Ionity: 45 ct
Shell: 49 ct
EnBW: 46 ct
EWE Go: 52 ct
Aral Pulse: 44 ct
With a small monthly fee, often only 39 ct. We're not the cheapest option here.
I have seen that there is quite a movement in Germany to protest against the high drop in charges.
I believe Aral are veryexpensive on drop in as well?

The prices are then between 69 and 89 cents.
You can also use the charging card or the app. Then the lower prices apply.

OHV_44 wroteSo in Germany it is roughly €17k cheaper than the iX3 50?The official announcement for the iX3 40 was released today.
It will be identical to the iX3 50, both inside and out.
In Germany, it will cost from €53,300 plus tax.

Brutto:
iX3 40 = 63.400 €
iX3 50x = 70.900 €
Difference = 7.500 € - with the same interior and exterior features.

That doesn't seem worth the difference to lose AWD, range and performance. I'm surprised anyone would go for it.

I think some people want a lower monthly lease payment. It can save almost €100.
Also, there are quite a few companies here that limit the performance of their company cars. The 40 would be suitable for that.

I suspect a 4wd version that will come later of the 40 would be a sweet spot for many, a colleague in his i4 is chewing through tyres of his RWD only car with the torque and in questionable conditions.

I could imagine that the small battery, which is installed in both 40s, argues against it.

Its that smaller battery which is the killer and which surprises me. With my current Polestar 2 you can get the RWD (with a bigger drop in price than this) and keep the same size battery and get a significantly increased range. That makes it an attractive proposition. I'm surprised BMW didn't go down tat route and have a headline range figure that beats everything.

Real world range of 250 miles is plenty in European countries perhaps not so for the US.

It all depends on how you use your car and your typical journeys. I have to do a weekly round trip of around 400 miles. If I could do that on one full charge I would save a fortune at 5.2p instead of 80p plus. I know it will be tight but I am hoping I will achieve it in my new IX3.

250 really isn’t. You couldn’t get from London to Manchester or Newcastle with that kind of range

Info and costs from the UK - £5500 less than the 50.

I personally would simply do a quick top off someplace with a fast charger instead of driving slower than usual and if this was not possible or convenient, I would not do that trip with an EV at all but of course YMMVIt all depends on how you use your car and your typical journeys. The price difference between the 40 and 50xdrive is too little. Furthermore, the US is going to be getting a 40xdrive, supposedly with the big battery from the 50xdrive. I can imagine the price difference between each is 5% max at base price. You can eventually get a dealer discount larger than that 5% spread on the 50xdrive, being the more popular and predominantly stocked model at dealers.

ggalanis wroteWe'll see when it comes. I've been doing this trip by EV for four years now. In my first it was two stops and my current its a quick one stop. I would never go back to a non EV now s they ae so much better to drive. Quite hopeful I will do it afte talking to the guys doing all the demo drivig who were getting close or over 500 miles on their trips around UK. I've also gone for maximum range in all my options so 20" aero wheels and no M or M Sport options as I see no point in a harder ride or cosmetics. I'll let you know when it comes.Salmonfisher wroteEven in decent weather this would need you to drive slow. I suspect that the 50 will get a price bump to further differentiate it I suspect, as has already happen in the some EU countries not in the UK, 5k is pretty close unless its lower speck making the actual difference wider. Maybe for lease they will discount it more which is what many are buying it as.

London to Newcastle via the M1/A1 is 291 miles, but according to Google Maps as I type, is estimated to take 5 hours 20 minutes. So it's a one-stop journey to charge for 10 minutes where you would normally stop to go to the toilet or grab a drink anyway.
zilla91 wroteWho's paying 80p/kWh at IONITY? The break-even point for taking out a subscription is not even one charge. And you can cancel immediately and just pay for one month. My main gripe with charging is that it’s extortionate if you’re not doing it at home.
Tesla Supercharger pricing (for Tesla’s) are acceptable but when places like Ionity are charging nearly 80p per kWh you want the mega range so that you can get to where you’re going and back without having to stop and pay as much as you would for a tank of petrol.
