Here is a focused, technical delta analysis of the latest software version (~03/2026 vs. your 11/2025) – not as a feature list, but along the lines of the actually changed control loops.
1. Longitudinal dynamics: Recuperation ↔ Brake ↔ Cruise control (core change)
What's new
- Predictive lead time : Delay is "built up" earlier, before the speed is exceeded.
- Continuous blending : Recuperation and hydraulic braking often run in parallel (instead of "either/or").
- Flatter deceleration curve : fewer peaks, more consistent braking torque.
- Downhill: less readjustment, hardly any "re-braking"
- In ACC: earlier, gentle delay instead of later, stronger interventions.
- stronger coupling of:
- Map data (gradient/topology)
- Target speed (ACC/Limit)
- Current vehicle status (SoC, Grip)
- The target variable shifts from "maintaining target speed" to
- "Achieve target speed without overshooting"
What's new
- Finer torque distribution between front and rear axles
- Earlier regenerative braking activation when a gradient is detected
- Softer SoC derating (less abrupt throttling at ~80–100%)
- More stable deceleration on varying friction coefficients
- less “recuperation breaks down → brake engages”
- Improved control during long descents
- Recuperation is used as a vehicle dynamics actuator (not just energy recovery)
- Reduction of slip peaks by distributing the braking torque
B-mode
- Characteristic curve smoothed , same maximum power, but:
- earlier start
- less steep inclines
- Result: more controlled , less "jerky"
- clearer conditions (sailing or recuperation, less back and forth)
- stronger integration of:
- Map profile
- Cruise control
- In the ACC, it acts almost like a "predictive soft B".
- B = precise tool for delay
- D = Default for efficiency , significantly improved
What's new
- Small hydraulic components are added earlier, even though recuperation would still be possible.
- Comfort filter (no harsh transitions)
- Stability (especially in wet conditions/curves)
- Reserve power (faster response than regenerative braking alone)
- subjectively "smoother"
- Objectively speaking: slightly less regenerative braking maximization , but more robust.
the change
- Cross-axle distribution of braking torque (including recuperation) is used more actively.
- The front axle acts more as a stabilizer (pitching/yaw moment).
- quieter vehicle at:
- gradient + curve
- changing grip
- Fewer interventions by the ESP as a "last step"
Improvements
- more stable DC handshake sequences
- Fewer dropouts / retries
- more consistent power consumption
- No peak performance gain, but higher reliability → often faster in real-world use.
the change
- Greater emphasis on:
- Topography (slope/gradient)
- Traffic
- Target speeds
- previous regenerative braking in D-mode
- ACC “thinks ahead”, not just reactively
- more conservative procedures (earlier, but gentler)
- occasionally:
- Delaying something "too cautiously"
- Less transparency:
- It is harder to recognize exactly when mechanical braking occurs.
not
Part of the update is
- no new sensor technology
- no higher level of autonomy
- no significant increase in range or performance
10. Summary
The update shifts the focus from:
Maximum recuperation / reactive control
to:
Predictive, mixed control with stability and comfort priority
For your specific situation (mountains, longer descents, conscious SoC management), this means:
- fewer interventions of the mechanical brake in "stages"
- More stable latency at ~80% SoC
- Noticeably calmer behavior in ACC downhill mode

Lots of tweaks and improves there, nothing on any fixes to and internal software.

Why don't they just make these over the air updates?

VincentHannah wroteThey will but at first the often make the dealer update only in case of issue they can help resolve issues, then they roll them out OTA. On the X1 forum it wasn’t unknown for updates to brick a car, very rare and we have had no issues but it’s not a zero risk especially early on.Why don't they just make these over the air updates?

FYI my car shows version 03/2026.34. Delivered 4 days ago so not sure if this was already in the car or updated OTA.....
Header of this post is a bit confusing as sw versions are not written as 2026.03.32 but as 03/2026.34....

Has anyone seen the details/summary of the sw updates?
There is a ”button” in the car bur it does not work in 03/2026.32
I got a recall so I guess that my car will get an update tomorrow

Users of the new version at least let us know if there are changes in the functionality, such as:
- Does "automatic lock/unlock by approaching" work with the key fob?
- Does the cooling of the wireless charger work?
- Can you control the A/C settings of the rear seat from the main screen?
