It isn't just a modified car.

That particular Plaid races in what is probably one of the most highly modified sports car classes in the world. Unlimited Global Time Attack basically has no rules.

To be clear, that Plaid is slower than a Honda S2000 in the same class.

I'm quite certain it can do more than one. I mean, the fact that we're comparing lap times of an almost 5,000 lbs EV with subpar brakes and not the best tires against the GT3 RS track weapon on cup tires doesn't just demand respect, I don't know what else will. I remember a few years ago when all the fanboys were criticizing the Model S for its poor performance over 100 MPH, but Tesla fixed that. Then they started to criticize the Model S for its lack of track performance, and once again, Tesla addressed that. In just about 9 years of Model S production, Tesla has managed to outperform nearly every car manufacturer out there. I'm not a Tesla fan boy, but I truly admire their progress.

It still looks like an egg with a dogshit interior though.

most Plaid track owners will likely have a GT3 to do the other 14 laps

What is being compared isn't a 5,000lbs EV with subpar brakes. It is the Unplugged Plaid Dark Helmet, which is fully gutted, carbon ceramics front/rear, billet suspension, 4way coilovers, insane aero, lexan windows, etc. The car runs on Yokohama Advan slicks. It is the same car Randy Pobst drove for Laguna EV record. This car is raced in the Unlimited class in Global Time Attack. Where it is slower than a Honda S2000, came in 5th actually. These cars are some of furthest things from stock vehicles you get. The comparison to a factory car is idiotic. The Dark Helmet is impressive for sure, but competing against other ICE competition it gets beat by 6sec a lap at Buttonwillow.

I was referring to the 1.27.8 time of stock Plaid, which is faster than both M5 CS and M3 CSL. Now let's imagine Tesla will finally release their upgraded brakes option and adds some lightweight wheels with top-performing tires. I won't be surprised if Plaids will beat GT3 RS.

Of course, as would most people. I'd never drive my Plaid on a track since it simple would not be a pleasant experience. It would be downright dumb to track a Plaid. Perhaps if I drive it to Thermal next time where I keep a few cars, I'd take out just for shits.

That's what makes it even more embarrassing for cars slower than it. People are talking about a 4-door electric family sedan's capabilities against the best performance cars money can buy. Let that sink in.

No, they wouldnt.

I saw some people on a test drive flooring a new BMW electric SUV the other day. If you dont think 99.8 people are just about straight line acceleration, you are fooling yourself.

Here is one of the better lap time comparisons for stock vs stock vehicles using the same driver(the Stig) on the same track(Top Gear test track)

https://fastestlaps.com/tracks/top-gear-track

The Model 3 Performance is faster around the Top Gear Test Track than a lot of cars most people would consider very capable sports cars including a 718 Cayman S, F80 M3, SLS AMG, 981 GTS, 718 GTS 4.0, 911 GT3 RS(996), R8 V10, RS6 and many more....That is pretty damn impressive for a car that can be had for @ $50K new these days and makes a fantastic daily out of..I know the name Tesla triggers many on here, but the fact is is that it is a very capable car and much more than just a Hellcat killer at stop lights....

You will see a loser in the mirror. If you don't have anything to say move along.

lol..a new spin on the old and laughable "i'd rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow" saying, usually reserved for old dudes in Miatas clogging up the track in the intermediate group on track days

I'd rather just drive a fast car fast....lapping guys too wrapped up in politics or more interested in sound than speed

Gas, Hybrid or EV doesnt matter to me as long as it is fast and handles well....a 120 hp car wouldn't excite me much, but if that's what you like, you do you

You're the one who sidetracked the discussion so not surprised to see you get defensive.

I saw the top 10 list at the end of the OP video and noted the impressive performance by Plaid. But if you see nothing wrong with calling people "losers" for discussing this don't waste your time.
