hmm...
i think in general, smoother is faster but you have to be smooth at the limit of grip. for the everyday joe, i think we are missing the "at the limit of grip" portion when we say smoother is faster. and its def very hard to be at that point of traction without breaking the limit and making slight corrections. now, going pretty fast through a turn and being smooth is definitely for sure faster than just power sliding through it that is for sure. if entry speed is the same, is being smooth faster than someone who is on the throttle earlier on exit and having to make a slight correction (slight as in just to straighten out with not much yaw angle)? I'm not so sure, because one guy is still not on the gas, and still scrubbing speed, while the other guy is already accelerating out -albeit that during the correction of the steering wheel, the acceleration rate is decreased, but nonetheless, still accelerating vs the other guy who hasnt got on the throttle yet. what do you guys think? i dont think you can be the fastest when smooth until you have learned how to drive over the edge. at least from then on, you can dial it down to optimal speeds and be smooth. but until then smooth is typically slower. |

This is a better promo video IMO. Smooth like butter. Demonstrates great car (kart) control instead of keeping the throttle down and hacking at the steering wheel.

I never quote Billy Joel, but somtimes he's right. From Glass Houses:
There's a new band in town But you can't get the sound From a story in a magazine. Baby, it's your average scene. Get an instructor, get to the track, and see what he or she has to teach you. They all have something new and different to offer you. Come knowing what kind of driver it's your goal to become, and communicate that to them before you start. Listen to them as hard as you can and try to execute their instructions to the best of your ability. Be grateful to them for the skills they impart, with patience and courage. If you've moved out of the instructed groups, I'll bet there's still something you could learn from an instructor, even another one out of your group. Or hire that Mike Skeen guy. Reputedly, 2:14 at VIR full in a spec E30. Just sayin. This sport is dangerous, but it's still safer than skiing. Safer than driving to the track, for that matter. Actually the sport I've been injured the most in is...basketball. Yes, a girl sport.
![]() So from dangerous to safe...basketball > skiing > ice hockey > track driving
