Gti was no brainer for me. Affordable, still fun to drive..

And no performance package. It was base gti s with DSG tranny.
I prefer my boss kind and respectful (not arrogant) having a nice car. Otherwise I'd think the Business is not doing well. But a GTI is good enough.

Are Golf GTI so Special in the US? In EU that is the most sold "sports" car.

There are people that are absolutely fanatical about them here in the U.S. I've never understood it. For the longest time it's just been a front wheel drive car that is bested every time by the wrx and other similar cars. Now that there's an awd version here, the tables have turned. Never been much attracted to the design though, seems to me that Audi has always been able to build something on the same chassi that doesn't seem like a chopped sedan/hatch. I wish the going was just a little longer....but then it'd be a Jetta I guess. I kind of judge the gti against the wrx wagon (owned one), wrx hatch, A3 hatch, Ms3 and any other similar cars.

But again, all that said, the new awd 300hp version seems to be pretty special here. Just wish we could get the s3 , rs3 and s4 avants here. I'd have one if we did.

Congrats on the car! I have a current generation VW GLI as a daily driver. Great on gas, good performance for every day driving and you can have some good fun on twisty roads too.

I mainly went for the GLI because I like the sedan body style more. It looks like a mini Audi S4 from the outside.

We have the S3 here in the states. Are you waiting for a hatchback version?

RS3 would be a beast car but for that money I would be in an M3/M4.

The GTI always does well in the hot hatch comparos, plus there is lots of aftermarket support. However, VW generally has not ranked very well for reliability. How have people found the GTI in terms of reliability?

Yes, they've been tested (both the standard GTI vs. WRX and the VW R vs. STI) and the VW won both contests, plus it won Motor Trend COTY and one of Car and Driver 10 Best awards. The quality of the interior, the overall performance and the fact that it gets much better fuel mileage were all contributors to it winning the comparisons. Too bad they don't make a WRX wagon anymore, so there's also a big advantage for hauling things in the VW hatch too.

Great choice! Had a GTI previously, will probably have another one someday. The GTI is one of the few cars left that really feels a lot better to drive than its numbers would suggest.

Now that the Camry V6 does 0-60 in 5.something seconds I just don't get excited about lots of power like I used to. The GTI really hits a good sweet spot of performance, practicality, and conservative styling

Just wanted to update on my GTI.

Last week, I added a Remus exhaust, Volk RE30 Clubsport II wheels (custom painted satin bronze) in 17x8 with Michelin PSS in 245/40 (the wheels weigh 15 lbs. each) and a Kersher front lip spoiler.
This little car is a blast! Lots of fun and now the grip is even better than before (all-season P7 tires stock).

My brother picked up the same car in manual. Fun little car and the interior looks great for 25K. You guys need the LED taillights asap. Thats the only thing i don't like about the US spec Gti.
