From another US based member, but I’m not sure if this would apply to the UK, or if the retrofit mentioned is for the G45, or US G01.

Every sign is pointing to BMW keeping the status quo in the US (no acoustic glass). I can't think of anything that BMW brought back to the G45 compared to the G01 and the theme has been to "remove" more often than not!

Like you, I was surprised as it looked and felt better in person than pics did suggest. The test drive I was blown away, engine was responsive, handled very well. Even with the iconic sounds turned off it still sounded pretty good for the power level not being a V8.

The dune color looks much better in person than on screen. I opted for frozen pure grey but am very scared as reading some views from the other car communities it is a pig if you scratch it or match.

Nice ride !
You can ceramic coat a frozen color.

And let me just say this… 9/10 times when you damage a clear coat - you end up repairing / repainting the car the same way you would repaint a frozen color.

“Blending” never looks perfect- I rather blend a fender of a matte finish white than try and match a pearl or tri color paint with clearcoat.

For the record I’ve never owned a frozen color but I’ve read up on the maintenance involved

There was a 2025 X4 30i parked next to the M50 in the showroom and the X4 looked much nicer inside.

I liked the way it drove and I like the exterior styling.
What killed me is the red stripe on the steering wheel. It’s very distracting. It should be an option.

I was thinking of ordering the rim at 1600.00 (30 rim is black). And would fit.

Just curious after reading about some recent model missing some M branding on the rear brake callipers.

Does the M50 still have these or did BMW delete ?

New here. I love the exterior of your M50 and think that the Cognac interior really sets it off. That part of the vehicle is just gorgeous.

As much as I like the exterior, I just can't get behind the instrument panel and controls. I like a glareshield over my instruments and tactile controls. The large panel and touch/voice controls is the same reason I can't buy a new Lexus or Acura and have opted for the 2025 X4 M40i in Melbourne Red.

My local dealerships all say that they feel the air controls for the side air outlets are going to be problematic over time.

I hope she serve yous flawlessly and you have much enjoyment with her for many years. Congratulations on the purchase!

My m50 has semi autonomous driving just have to set the cruise and yellow lights come on in the steering wheel reminding you to touch same every 10-15 seconds. The technology is there, no reason they can extend that time to 30 seconds or 1 minute during highway driving

So does my G01, but only hands free at slower speed, so it’s not a particularly new thing.

I’m not sure it’s a question of technology, but more about product hierarchy. The x5 supports higher speed hands free, and it’s a differentiator.

I was thinking a bit more into the future autonomous driving, on future cars.

Completely hands free without reminders to grab the steering wheel ?

If so why the yellow lights remind you to touch the wheel every 10-15 seconds ?

I’ve only used DAP at max 100mph, but I think it support higher speed.

Any idea if the rear caliper is dual piston or single. I read somewhere it is dual, but not sure if it’s true.

Yes I was reminded to grab steering wheel but it would still steer on its own for 10-15 seconds at high speeds

That’s the same as DAP on the G01 at that speed, but as slower speeds it steers without needing to touch the wheel or being constantly reminded, which is particularly useful in stop go or slow moving traffic. I’d imagine the G45 is the same, although some DAP functions vary by region.

Some of the more recent higher than X3 models can steer at highway speeds without being reminded to touch the steering wheel, which is the differentiation I mentioned.

Maybe it's also a question of regulations and certification.

Just guessing, but maybe as the system of the 5 series is based on iDrive 8.5 it's not yet certified with the iDrive 9 system and therefor authority has not aproved it to the public traffic.

My hop is, that it will be upgradable in the Connected App store as an aftermarket purchase later when you have the driving assistance profesional package hardware installed.

But that's a wild guess with a large questionmark.

The G45 still doesn't have the "Highway Assist" that the X5 and X7 get up to 85 mph hands free.

FWIW, the Highway Assist service is only promised for 7 years so possibly paying for hardware that could be obsolete!

On my German G01 2020 with iDrive 7 and Driving Assistand Plus the steering assist works up until 130mph.

It's the same with the DA Pro in the new X3

Unfortunately the UK is a nanny state and we are not allowed to do more than 70mph on our fastest roads, and I’ve never had chance to push the limits. 130mph seems a familiar number though,

That warning when selecting the option is not what it means. It showed that warning when ordering it back in April '23 and it still shows that warning. If that were the case of it only being good for 7yrs then someone ordering it now would have 6yrs of service. It's in reference to the maps data.

Right, which is BMW’s out for not supporting it indefinitely!
