I installed it in VMware the other day. Looks pretty clean and everything ran pretty well for the most part. I dunno about the "homegroup" concept and the "libraries" naming scheme though... I installed Beta 1 Build 7000 x86

There's a good article about Windows 7 in the latest (Jan 09) edition of PC Magazine. Btw, Windows 7 will be compatible with Vista drivers. Or put another way, Vista drivers will work with Windows 7.

another edit: i was not personally at PDC, but the guy right next to me was, and he just confirmed. i saw all PDC videos from Channel9 tho (work requires that i do)
I'm confused. Quoting the article you linked to:

Quote:
Senior Vice President Bill Veghte stated that Windows 7 will not have the kind of compatibility issues with Windows Vista that Vista has with previous versions.[13] Speaking about Windows 7 on 16 October 2008, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer confirmed compatibility between Vista and Windows 7.[14] Ballmer also confirmed the relationship between Vista and Windows 7, indicating that Windows 7 will be an improved version of Vista.[14]
This clearly contradicts what you've been saying.

NO kidding! My work laptop is still running Windows 2000!! It was a brand new laptop 18 months ago, so it isn't some relic from '01 or '02 either. Some of the newest employees have laptops running XP, and we are supposed to be moving to XP over the next 12 months.

I'm using a Vista 32bit desktop, and the wife is uing a Vista 64bit laptop. We don't have many problems with either system. What really pisses us off is the damn HP L7680 printer! It truncates text when printing, and HP has ignored the problem for 13 months (many others have the same issue.) So it isn't just Micro$oft that puts out the occassional turd...

Is that transparent windows thing a first for MS Windows? I've enjoyed it on the Mac for quite some time now.
