Surprisingly, there is actually a harness in the door panel that will function if connected. All you would have to do is push out that cover panel, disconnect the harness from the dummy panel, and connect a light.

It should be easy enough for someone to check, if someone wants to add puddle lights to the carpet light.

For EVs, this will be a problem for BMW because the superior powertrain/drivetrain will be no more and what will matter more is chassis, suspension, steering, interior and exterior design.

One good thing going for BMW is it has one of the better infotainment systems out there and software-wise, its BEVs/PHEVs are likely better than any VAG BEV products.

Just sat in one and had a proper poke around the interior. Seats were nice, and it has the modern BMW solidity when you close the door. Apart from that, it really does feel cost cut into oblivion on the interior. It does not feel premium at all. Where you hold to close the door for example is a scratchy black plastic with a sharp lip. Some of the trim pieces have obvious gaps as well that look out of place. Very high hood line, feels like a minivan. Next to an X5 it looks like a shapeless NPC mobile. In Europe why would anyone buy this over a 3 series touring, and in the US just get an X5. I certainly won’t be replacing my M340i with it anytime soon.

I had flagged the KIA-iffication of BMW in 2022 already when I received my second X5... I still have that car, and as much as I like the first, I still dislike this one. I was SO looking forward to pick a new X3 in the next few months, and now I realize the new X3 is even worse!

So seriously, given that there isn't a 30d either, I could pick any of the middle-range brands, even Kia and probably end up with a very similar car. How sad is that...

I still see F15s and F25's around, and they look darn good in comparison, what a *shame* this is, and in less than 5 years.
